Idea To Put A Dvd-rom Outside The Xbox

If I want to install a new dvd-rom drive, anyone knows if it is possible to have both the power cable and the ide cable going out from the box so I can have the drive on top of the xbox? Are the cables small enough to be pulled out in some holes in the box?
