Arrested recently for selling early dev kits of XB1, and unveiling parts of the system last year Now SuperDAE is out on bail, and reports claim his freedom was fast, because of his 'deadman switch' on a FTP vault of secrets regarding Microsoft's new XBOX ONE console (IMG:http://www.maxconsole.com/maxconsole/contents/RKSID00000000000000000911/icon_xl.jpg) We have all read the stories about SuperDAE trying last year to sell off a couple of Durango dev kits, the early models of the XB1, and then later on spilling out a ton of information regarding the 'insides' like 'specs' of number of cores, size of ram, long before Microsoft had their big event, and because of that, Microsoft was hunting SuperDAE down, and even raided him, and now recently arrested him, but this is weird the story turns weird, it seems SuperDAE has an deadman switch on his FTP server, and if he is not given a free pass, all of Microsoft's secrets regarding the XB1 will spill out into the massive world of the 'net, forever out there for fellow hackers and users. Two NextBox Dev kits were listed on ebay by DaE (Real Name: Dan Henry) which subsequently had the police arrest him today. What police did not know about Henry was that he set up what people are calling a "deadman's switch" in his personal FTP Sever to leak every single secret about the XBOX One that has been collected for the past 3 years. These secrets are obviously important enough to keep hidden if they were willing to grant Henry bail earlier today. For those that are wondering about this "deadman's swtch", what this essentially means is that if Henry is not at his PC by a certain time, unspecified as of right now, his twitter account will give out the password and username to his FTP to grant everyone and anyone access to these leaked secrets. "A gaming journalists dream" as he puts it. So, scene ONE is now finished, Henry (aka) DaE is now on bail (step 1 to being a free man), but will Microsoft play hardball and throw him to lions of the court for Justice even though he gave the local police and FBI an ultimatum, either let all this XBOX ONE information leak totally, or let him become a free man with no charges. How could they seize it if they had no idea where it was or if it was even located within the USA? And what's to say he wasn't just bluffing? Either way he's now on bail so let's see if Microsoft are willing to risk calling his bluff.

I was thinking the exact same thing as I read this.  I don't know the whole story, but just this piece just sounds so fictional.  No criminal is smarter or slicker than the government.  That's only in the movies.

I am not a lawyer ...just someone who has been to court a few times so.....

Even if Microsoft was "scared" of the "secrets" locked away in his ftp with a "deadmans switch" and they wanted to drop the charges. The state would just take them over and prosecute the guy. It isn't like TV where the state says "oh ok Microsoft we just spent money tracking him down and arresting him so go ahead and drop the charges." They will say "no we are prosecuting him anyways" and they will subpoena Microsoft to court to testify. He made bail and walked out to go back to court another day. I am not even sure what crime he committed selling 2 dev boxes. Certainly not anything criminal... breech of contract? theft of services maybe?

The whole thing seems a bit far fetched... and if this story is true - then really the guy deserves to be whacked over the head!

Note that in Australia we don't have the same laws so the FBI wont have the same authority - however since twitter is hosted in the US that makes it a prime target for shutting down his account

i call fud on this the fbi could have his twitter act closed or info reviled reg this so called ftp user and password.if its a official fbi investigation, warrants for twitter act are not a problem to obtain .

What information could he have that Microsoft would care about leaking? If the console has to be online most or all of the time to play games on it, it can't be about piracy and we already know all or at least most of the specs on it. What a moron, I hope they give him the maximum sentence for whatever crime he committed.

He's a young guy with hacking abilities wanting to get recognition for getting inside the the walls of M$, Sony and some game development studios and grabbing their development secrets. He is one of many working in groups like Anonymous. These are the new generation of kids the Governments and corporations fear like Julian Assange and they will be labelled as cyber terrorists and will be hunted down and re-educated to be used by the Governments or they will be locked up for good.

China the other week allegedly hacked the blue prints of Australia's new spy agency building ASIO and may now have all details of all networking, electrical cables and layout to all database rooms.  China's new fleet of jet fighters are based on the blueprints hacked from the US military. China has embraced hackers while the West is lost on what to do.

They should have embraced him.  

If they don't, I hate to think of what happens to "durango".  He is not one.  Know that.  The "holes" are known.  He can either send the word to cancel them, or his imprisonment, will spread them.  I think the choice is theirs.  

What I think will happen is a wide open console on day one, he goes to prison, or they use him and reward him for improving security that is almost unbreakable, cat or mouse wins, but they can definately be in control.  Depends on what they want.  A console that is secure, or a kid in jail.  I mean he offered his services via text msg, but they wanted blood instead.

And yes bucko, they can close the acct, they are looking for the server right now. They want him to "talk" more. Wont find it though if he acts now.  Its not one server and its hidden in a black hole.  

If he waits, they may find it, if he releases it in clever ways now, its all over.  I dont think he will do it though, he still thinks he has half a chance.  Sad though, its a kid with more knowledge than he knows.  The US govt could use him right now, but they wont, hence why the Chinese are WINNING

And geez, one more time to comment, pholly, he has everything, source code to games that he doesn't even care about, dangerous.  More cards then he is showing.

He has user information, lots.  He has the ability to shut down xbox live servers, tons of them.  They need to know how to prevent other people from gaining access or lose user confidence in their security.  They basically need to know his knowledge, but dont yet.  Paypal wants to know how they were comprimised, so does ebay, how he sent a "kit", that was just finalized, to an address that he didn't "own", then how he spent cash he didnt have for it.  How he broke security on hundreds of servers easily.  How he colluded with someone to "catch" white papers on a machine that was barely beta.  They need to know how many, and who all is involved.  They will never know that, sorry.

They want to know why user information on "live" was so "easy" to get for him, them.  


So, this isn't a dvd firmware hack, its hacking, or controlling information on everything and everyone, Blizzard, EA, MS, Sony, Epic, anything they wanted, you name it, anything. Although he did say Blizzard was the toughest lol.

They can either use him or destroy him.  Thats the choice they are choosing right now.  If you dont hear from him after a short while, its the first.  If you see him in the news as "busted", its the latter.

So, not about good or bad anymore, about intelligent, or so intelligent its out of reach of even their most talented people.  Again, cat and mouse.  

But at this point, which is he?  


Not saying its right, but it is what it is.  Right now he is the mouse threatening to be the cat, we will see what becomes of that.

You are spot on.  This is what they are "afraid" of, but need to embrace.  Problem is, they are seen as criminals instead of future wizards.  Problem for "US".  I mean some get "promoted", most go to jail as traitors.
