Ati X800 And Nvidia 6800 Gt
« on: July 28, 2004, 03:49:00 PM »

ok, so, lets say i dont plan on overclocking either of them, which one is better?

as the X800 has a core speed of 475mhz, and memory speed of 900mhz

where as the nvidia only has a core speed of 350 mhz, but a memory speed of 1,000 mhz.......

so, again, if i dont want to overclock either of them, and i just plug and play, which is better

(if it helps i have a Athlon 64 3200 and Asus K8V SE Deluxe, with 1 gig of dual memory (2 sticks of 512mb)

So ATI x800 PRO compared to a 6800 GT? I think it would sort of make another diffrence about the cooling as well, and of course the size psu.

is a 450 watt psu to little for either of these graphics cards?

as i only have 4 molex connectors, but if need be i can hook up all my fans and shit to share from the dvd rom drive

x800 mos def!

No way in hell!

The X800 is comparble to the 6800. The 6800GT is faster than the X800 Pro.

Get a 6800GT. I got mine for $280 through a CompUSA deal (retail is $400) and it is perfect. It doesn't matter if overclocking is not your thing. It's mine, and I get Ultra speeds out of it. I'm going to flash the card's BIOS to a 6800 Ultra so I get stock Ultra speeds and the +.1v to enable more overclocking.

nope, there right, the 6800 GT is faster, even if its not overclocked

as nvidias 6800 uses next generation chipset, where as ATI just uses older chipsets but modify them to run faster

Now, they're both new chipsets... but the GeForce series is proven faster. And this is coming from someone (me) who's last video card was a Radeon 9800 Pro. Even in Doom III benchmarks, the GeForce 6800GT out performs the Radeon X800 XT PE!

your all full of it, maxium pc compared them and x800 outperformed nvidia in most games (fps) but lost to nvidia in apps like photoshop (speed "faster") Go with x800! you ownt regret it at all.

Every PC magazine I read gave them both 5 stars. And the people that I know that have gotten the x800 says it isn't worth it for the money they say it is just as good as a 9800 pro overclocked to a XT or just an XT overclocked. But, the people that have 6800 gt think it's amazing and have switched over from 9800. I would rather go with 10 people's opionions instead of 1000's of magazines opionions that are paid each month to make ton's of them.

Like a graphics card will have any affect on a 2D application like Adobe Photoshop. Shit, I could load up a PCI Voodoo and I'd get the same performance in Photoshop as my GeForce 6800GT. It's the processor which matters.

Straight out look at the first article and tell me that even the Radeon X800 XT PE outperforms the GeForce 6800 Ultra.

I wouldn't really worry about it... you should be able to play the game at 1024x768 with medium quality. And this isn't for a slideshow... this is at a playable average at a little more than 30fps.
