Decided To Juice Up My Current System Im Making
« on: July 24, 2004, 04:09:00 PM »

Ok, so upon building my system i realized the graphics card was broken (tried powering up, got no video) so i am going to order a new one, but i just got some extra money, so i have a whole new plan

i can either stay with the asus and AMD athlon xp 3200, and spend the extra money on an upgraded graphics card (whatever is better then a 9800 pro)

or i can stick with the 9800 pro and upgrade to a AMD 64 (between a 2800 and 3200) with matching asus

now, first off, whats the next best ati card after the 9800 series?

second, what would all around juice up the system, the better graphics card, or the 64 series AMD processor??

ok, now some other questions

1) if im using a cpu shim, how worried should i be that i might crack or break the cpu due to over tightening of the heatsink?
do you have any suggestions on how to prevent that?

2) if i upgrade my cooler on the video card, should i also be worried about overtighening and breaking that to?
if so, how can i tell when enough is enough?

thats about it for now, i just wanted to know about the video or cpu upgrade, as i was planning to slowly switch to a better graphics card and cpu, but since i have some more money now, i just wanted to know which to upgrade first, thanks

Im personally a more ATI fan, but I suggest the Geforce FX6800 GT or maybe the 5950 and overclock them.

ok, so its either a choice between an ATI RADEON X800 (256 mb) video card

or a AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor

which one should i get now, and which should i wait to get at christmas?

***my current system now is a amd athlon xp 3200+ and a ati radeon 9800 pro (128mb)

Im telling you man, get the 6800 gt it will be cheaper and plus it supports the 3.0 shading which ati doesn't and overclock's very nicely. Maybe you should check out the benchmarks with the x800 xt/x800 pro against the 6800/6800u the normal 6800 beats the xt in many benchmarks except a few.

Why? Get the 6800 im a ATI fan but the benchmarks don't lie the GT alone takes the XT on.
