Indeed, the prosecutor had asked for a 340-year sentence but the trial judge imposed the minimum of 10 years for each of 20 images - to be served consecutively for a total of 200 years without the possibility of probation, early release or pardon.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/6399471.stm

A couple of things:

1. What is with the rediculous sentences?  200 years wasn't enough, HAD to go for 340.  The guy is 52 years old!  I doubt he even has another 30 years in him.
2. This guy is sick, no doubt.  But I think he should be "treated" with electroshock therapy, or something like that.  In fact I would be more likely to throw him in a mental institution then jail.  He may be fucked in the head but he didn't actually go out and molest any children (that we know of.)  Jail should be reserved for the people who actually act on their fucked up urges.

If you ask me the US is ass backwards anyway.  They put more emphasis on porn and drugs, and not enough on guns.  The fact that police can walk into a house and be more concerned with a joint in the ashtray then they are with the "legally aquired" uzi on the wall seems messed up to me.

I am in the US but i agree, they should take the guns and leave the drugs, then when every one dies from over dose we can have a mass burial some where in utah.
leaving the, at least semi-intelligent people.

I think this verdict sends out the right message to closet pedo’s.  He may not have had physical contact with the children but his actions are fueling the seedy trade in child pornography.

rotfl.gif Holy crap, that was funny. I almost choked to death on my chicken nugget. I'm sorry; I know this is a serious subject, but the way you phrased it cracked me up.

Note for Xombe: I think he beat your Oblivion post with that. I mean, come on, I almost died! laugh.gif

I wouldn't put it so frankly, but I do agree that there are a lot of "WTF" issues in the US. The one that always gets me is that certain acts of violence can be shown on the news, but God forbid a female's nipple make an appearance on TV. With the mass hysteria in the media surrounding Janet Jackson's Superbowl "flash," one would think that a meteor was coming to collide with the Earth and wipe out all life. That was 2004. The story is still in the news sometimes (usually as an honorable mention). I mean, really, I bet everyone here has at least one nipple. Right? Some of us have two. *checks self* Yeah, two.

Well I hate to do this to you, but I'm afraid you're not very educated on the matter. I'm sure you were being sarcastic, but the only way you can legally acquire an uzi is with a class 3 license from the ATF. It costs ridiculous amounts of money anually. You can only get so much ammunition legally. You have to have a background check done and they can decline you for any reason. VERY few people can actually get this.

So what does this mean? It means that if you're going to go through all of this, chances are you're not going to use it in an illegal way because the government knows who you are and exactly what you have and where you have it.

The thing you should be concerned with, are the things the government cannot control. The people that acquire these weapons illegally. They are the ones who will use the weapons maliciously. You don't know who they are or what they've got. No amount of legislation will stop that. So what does legislation do?

It takes a law-abiding citizens' ability to defend himself. The man who is going to use the firearm illegally is not going to care that it is unlawful for him to own the weapon. It DOES tell him that nobody else has this weapon. So now he is superman. He can walk into your house and take whatever he wants. Whether it be your wife, girlfriend, child. He could take any possession and you couldn't do anything about it.

You really need to think about what you're saying before you say it. Research a little bit. Try to know what you're talking about before you talk about it.

Niiiiice, way to attack a very irrelevant (and small) part of my post!

Well you are absolutely correct.  I have no idea what it would take to legally aquire an uzi in the USA.  I have more important things to worry about, like how much earwax I produce in a month.

I probably should not have gone to the gun argument (I've been down that road before) because that argument will go on forever.  I will never see eye to eye with you about guns, so how about we just drop that part of the discussion.

Thanks  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

Well I didn't attack. It wasn't irrelevant, and the only way you won't see eye to eye with me on it is by ignoring the truth. smile.gif Have a happy day

why is every gun owner/gun rights supporter so shit scared about everything? if people didnt legally have guns so easily, there would be less in the mix, therefore way less in criminal hands... ever heard of england?

you are way more likely to NEVER fucking need your precious handgun becuase chances are there wont be a derranged crack-head, uzi-weilder out to rape your daughter so your arguement is quite a ways less powerful than you think...

have a nice day (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

*im not attacking you either, im just very sarcastic... also, yes i realise that if a change in law were to occur tomorrow it would do very little to change how many guns are floating around out there, my arguement is that it should have never been like that in the first place...

Well it's not called being scared. It's called being a realist. Maybe the fact that I'm in law enforcement opened my eyes or maybe it's the fact that the situation happened to my family on vacation when I was a child. Had it not been for my father, things would have ended up poorly for us.

Yeah the same way that made drugs difficult to get..... dry.gif Obviously you are DEAD wrong on this point.

Yes and thank you for proving my point as their crime rate skyrocketed after they implemented this.

It's happened. Your argument is null and void. Also, why are you worried about me having a handgun? I'm not the one you have to worry about. It's the guy who has one that wants what you have that you need to worry about.

It is like this so that we may overthrow our government if it ever becomes necessary. It should still be this way. Also, look up the peal harbor attack. Japan wanted to invade the mainland but knew that the citizens were armed and it didn't stand a chance.

again, sorry it happened to you, still doesnt change stats... and thats the point, i DONT have to worry about some random dude with a gun...

uh-huh, so say we didnt like the gov(not a huge stretch), do you really think a militia of rednecks with handguns and hunting rifles could do anything other than a pointless shoot out ending up dead or in jail? didnt think so, so that arguement is also null and void... it may have been that way at one point, but it sure as fuck isnt now... as to the japan thing, yeah the fact that theyd also have to traverse an ocean being well announce and invade a much larger country didnt have a damn thing to do with their decision, it was all the legally owned guns of the citizenry...

Lol yeah... cuz we all know the majority of drugs here in the US are homegrown. There are TONS of poppy fields, coca fields, marijuana fields here.

Right that's what I'm sayin to you too.

QUOTE

It doesn't change the stats... but since the stats most likely agree with me anyways it doesn't matter. You might not have to worry about a guy with a gun. That's great... but if it ever happens to you, you'll understand. You won't be so naive after that.

QUOTE

This is funny seeing how only 15% of Iraqis are able to create all this tension in their country. We're seeing it right before our eyes and yet you say this. Also, this very same thing is how the country was created. This whole statement is simply ignorant and hilarious.didnt think so, so that arguement is also null and void... it may have been that way at one point, but it sure as fuck isnt now...

Yeah cuz that's never been done before... Like we didn't go to Europe and become victorious there..... You used to be so much better at arguing. You had decent arguments. Nowadays you're just coming up with crap that is nowhere near reality.

Who are you to decide who is good at debating or not?

You must have won a debate in high school law class and never came down.

Using personal experience (hearsay) and directly insulting the other person is not how to properly debate a point.

Remember RonJeremy?  He was one guy on the other side of the argument who could truly put me in my place.  Can't think of too many since.

and once again you chime in with nothing to add but only an attempt at a put down. Whatever makes you feel better about yourself tough guy.

Edit. lol good call though. I do enjoy a good argument.

Who am I? Just someone who can recognize when someone fails to use logic. Nobody has thrown actual facts or statistics in so until you do, don't tell me how to properly debate anything. Using logic is the best way. Also, I really didn't directly put anyone down. If I did I'm not aware of it. I feel that he's picked better arguments in the past... that's all.

Edit: as a matter of fact, I usually browse around and stop at GC's posts because he almost always has something witty or funny to say... as well as Xombe. It just so happens that we do not agree on politics apparently. If I'm coming off as an asshole, possibly try to sense the sarcasm. The only person I genuinely dislike in these forums is pug.

Your keen grasp of the obvious is as sharp as mine then.

I rarely ever post on topic in this forum as I don't want to come off like an complete and total ass.

Your equation of having very little appreciation for another's way of arguing and voicing that sentiment with an attempt to make one's self feel tough smacks of the lack of anything more accurate to say.
