New Protections Added to Leaked 12606 and Fall2010 Dashboard?

A new beta version [build 12606] of the Fall 2010 [alias 'Kinect'] dashboard has been leaked on the internet a few days ago and it seems like Microsoft added new protections to it. Several users seems to report problems booting certain games from recordable media on 360s with a modified DVD FW.
One of the titles affected seems to be Fable III. The game boots fine from any media on the current dashboard on a 360 with modified FW, but fails to boot from recordable media on the leaked/12606 beta dashboard ["This disc is unreadable"] - while the retail disc will work just fine according to #FW@EFnet.

Right now it's unclear which games, DVD models and/or modified FWs are exactly affected.

The new fall 2010 dashboard might get official released tomorrow [Tuesday Oct 26th 2010] (unconfirmed date, but it will be before Nov 4th anyway) to all 360 owners, so we suggest you do NOT update if you have a modified FW until we know more about these issues.
JTAG users should of course not update at all (will lock-out old CB and make the JTAG hack impossible), they should wait for a new rebooter.

Hopefully this is the only security implementation on the new dash, which I personally don't like the look of although it is fairly similar.

I never liked the blades either I think the current NXE dash is the best.

Just great.. i honestly thought Xbox-scene was smart enough to not post unsubstantiated BS which creates fear amongst the community.

I hope I don't get tonnes of calls tomorrow from dumb arses that read this news post.

Hopefully there will be an 'UPDATE' shortly to confirm this is BS.

I posted about this yesterday and I've read a lot of comments in various places. Based on what I've read: -

1. The game works fine with pre-beta dashboards.
2. Not all users of the beta dashboard are affected.
3. All beta dashboards after and including 2.0.12581.0, with or without avatars, may be affected. Earlier beta dashboards may be affected too, but I haven't read any comments about them.
4. Some users have said it works fine with beta dashboard X, but upgrading to beta dashboard Y lead to the "This disc is unreadable" error, even though other users claim to have no problem with either dashboard X or Y.
5. Fable 3 is the only game affected for now. The game is recognised by the console and will even install to the hard drive without issue. The error only appears when the game is booted.

What's certain is that the issue is real and not just people spreading lies or not knowing how to burn a disc, but there seems to be no logic to it, as it'll work for one person, but another person with the same drive, same firmware and same dashboard version will get the "This disc is unreadable" error.

Is there no way for non jtag users to remove the update from the disc? Obviously for offline use only.

They'll ready it elsewhere anyway. Hopefully they find the answers here, then you wont have to talk to your customers :/

Open the .iso and remove the $SystemUpdate folder. But that is not going to be necessary.

This could be bad for all the backup users.

If this new dash will not play backups but the retail will boot fine we have a problem. It sounds like there is new checks in the xex which as we all know cannot be modified.

Still, most of you have had a good run of 5 years with the backups so we can't really complain.

Methinks JTAGs just got a lot more desirable

I updated one of my xbox 360 with the 12606 dash update at first it was showing me "dirty disc error" for all my backups then i re formated my usb and hard drive and after that all my backups started to work. My guess is to re format your hard drive and usb if your usb is still on your xbox and the dirty disc error should go away.
