Hdd Or Smartxx Failure - How Troubleshoot?
« on: August 01, 2015, 01:58:00 PM »

I've disconnected the IDE cable from HDD and DVD and checked the current according to this (kept the startbutton down):

first things first, unplug the smartXX and DVD/HDD and power it on. if it powers on, it's a chip or hard drive issue. if it doesn't, it's a motherboard issue.

Ok. Do I need to remove the (red) cable also that is attached front/right on the chip? I lifted the SmartXX chip from the "pins" and no start. I noticed that the SmartXX is connected to 11 "pins" from the board (+ a red cable). 1 pin on the connection seems missing but I guess that is correct since the Xbox been working for eleven years?

if it is not hard soldered onto the chip, then yeah do that. that should eliminate the Chip from the Equation.

Thank's T2Steve. Soldered cabel removed (D0?) but no start-up. All capacitors looks OK. Current on PSU in STBY an ON (must keep start-button down) is OK. So, motherboard issue....?

Also Found a recovery switch on the SmartXX chip that I tried. Same start-up, the leds under the chip flash once then dead. Put the switch back and now there is a red led under the SmartXX. Think that is new,,, Did I erase anything?

Nothing happens when unplugging D0. A few spins on the fan, no videosignal, no lights on the front. The SmartXX leds flash initially but then fades. Power from PSU OK

should work, if it is soldered on you will need to do a rebuild on the LPC for the chip to work.

I tested my old motherboard now in an other Xbox. Same behavior, fan spins ~ 0.5 s then Stop, something is wrong with the motherboard!

the behaviour that you are describing (half second stop, half second stop, run full speed) is what we call a FRAG only you are saying that it isn't flashing red and green.

New motherboard, same version 1.6, and rebuilt with my SmartXX. Same HDD and DVD.

And an other stupid question. Why wont Evolution X start in "original" start-up? Do I need to reinstall this one to?
