mine maxes out at 1080i but I would like to upgrade to 1080p after this whole dvd format thing gets figured out.

Yeah, I'm definately going to get a 1080P but I'll wait another year or so when the actual usage of 1080P will be worth it.

I jumped the gun back in 2000 and bought a 1080i TV (being that old it wouldn't/doesn't even up-convert 720P signals to 1080i) then didn't use it for anything that used the 1080i except the few Xbox1 games that used it over the years and small things like that. So I made a stupid move.

In very late (October) 2004 I got a sweet deal on a DLP Samsung 3rd generation (which, if you didn't know, Samsung DLP's are highly reguarded as the best DLP's on the market and DLP's in general are the best bang for your buck; if you ask 100 audio/videophiles like me more will agree than disagree on that).

It's native mode is 720P but it down-converts 1080i to 720P and all. And, of course, I've gotten great usage out of it and it's PC, HDMI, DVI, Component input ports. smile.gif

By the way, someone mentioned in this thread that all 360 games are put out at 720P. That's not true. All Xbox 360 games, no matter what they say on the back, whether it says (1080i) --or-- (720P) --or-- (720P/1080i) on the back, your Xbox 360 and your TV will work it out to play on your set whether your 720 and/or 1080i native TV up-converts or downconverts or not. Plus, as you can see from above, some games were made for 1080i and not 720P. I just wanted to make that correction.

So to sum up that last paragraph, no matter what the back of your Xbox 360 game case says - 720P & 1080i, 720P only, or 1080i only (and yes, different Xbox 360 games will say one of these threee things), the game WILL DEFINATELY play on your 720P and/or 1080i TV no matter what - whether it's the 360 doing the up/down conversion and/or your TV doing the up/down conversion (if it can and if it needs to).

One thing that boggles my mind is why MS didn't get the DTS logo on the 360 or the package or any paperwork stating it supports DTS (which it clearly does because I've tested it with DVD's I have with DTS). Xbox1 had the logo. Maybe it would have cost them more money? I seriously, seriously doubt that but hey - it's possible I suppose.

I've got a 51 inch Philips HDTV. Got it in November 05 for $800. I really like it. Anything over $1000 I wouldn't pay so I waited.

It'll do 1080i /480P / 480i. I also have a 650W 5.1DD surround via optical fiber so its a pretty nice setup for under $1100 all together.

how about an option for EDTV that shows up to 1080i perfectly?  After all, everyone knows that HD resolution is only noticable in tvs 50" and above.

Wait, everyone doesn't know that? They waste their money buying 30" HDTV's?  I guess marketing does have a purpose...

HDTV's are still way to expensive in Europe, and in Belgium, you can't even get HD channels. When the price drops (in a few years), I might get one.

No offense or anything, but being the audio/videophile I am, I can assure you a true, good 720P and/or 1080i TV can easilly be noticed at better resolution below 50". I think the smallest ones they really make are around 28-32", though, it's somewhere in there.

Now, with that said, granted, you won't really see the difference on say a 30" TV with 1080i vs a 480i non-HDTV if you either have bad eyesight and/or are sitting more than 12 feet away. But with a 30" HDTV you'd probably want to be sitting, ideally of course, about 8 feet away to see the true HDTV resolution (who watches even a non-HDTV 30" TV from much more than 80 feet away, anyway, though? Not Many).

Oh well, I was just giving my two cents, bro.

How much?

And are they the same brands we get in the U.S. and Japan (obviously I would assume so, but then why the high price?)? --- Like Sony, Philips, Magnavox, Samsung, RCA. GE, Sharp...?

How much?

2,500 British Pound (GBP) = 4,343.20 US Dollar (USD)

Currency Exchange as of today, also, sales tax is 17.5% VAT over here.  It's an amazing TV.  Everything looks beautiful (even SDTV signals, don't actually get HD here yet!).  I run my xbox at 720p on it, it seriously blows you away!

Don't own one.  Would like one, but my wife would have a stroke if I went out and bought one. Of course you need a nice sound system also, which I don't have.

Hopefully they will come down in the UK as Sky are launching HD sattelite TV in the next month or two.

At the moment im running my 360 at 720p on a Dell 19" monitor.  I have to say you CANNOT see the real beauty on this setup though, if I stick my head RIGHT next to the monitor you get a better idea of how it should look on a HDTV but also a bad back and headache. ;-)

Unfortunately the VGA cable for 360 doesn't do 1080i which is a shame as I know this monitor can do that as I have seen my X-Box do it.

You call me a dork because I made a suggestion for another option on the Poll to choose from.

Good job, you just prooved how immature you are and that you have no class.

You, kid, obviously have an issue if you have nothing better to do then to call me a loser for making simple suggestion for the poll, which you did.

*claps* Congratulations, kid. It's people like you that help ruin respectable message boards and such.

I hope I don't loose any class by saying this but, come on dude, everybody is thinking it but no one wants to say that your suggestion for a poll option was probably like the worst option ever. Sure the one dude didnt have to call you a dork, it was uncalled for. Oh well, lets move on kid. No harm no foul, and this message board hasnt been soiled just yet.

Now there's a good tv. One of the best plasmas. I have the 50" Sony SXRD. 1080p. Games look great in 1080i since it's native resolution is 1080. But they do look smoother in 720p. Either way it's T!TS ( o )( o )

FYI, sorry but you've been misinformed.   According to the specs from Pioneer, your plasma has a max resolution of 1024x768 so it doesn't fully resolve 1080i or 1080p although it's likely that it can accept and downconvert the signals.

Hard to imagine that 8% (and close to 15% of those with HDTV) have 1080p compatible set given that less than 1 year ago, there were pretty much no sets available that actually did it.  Even now, most of the sets available don't do it.  I suspect that many may have been misled when they purchased it.

It had nothing to do with you, kid. I am old enough to be your father, believe me. He didn't only call me a "dork" but he also opened up his statement with "don't lose any sleep over it" which was another uncalled for, completely immature thing to do.

Another person has made a suggestion for the poll... Should we all start flaming him?

Come on now, your post is totally irrational and you should think before you type your message and had you done so you would have realized just how immature you're acting as well.

It was over when I responded to his uncalled for response. Why bring up many days old topics of conversation and drag it on and also involve yourself?

That's class right there.

Just drop it, lol. Clearly a lot of you kids and adults younger than myself don't belong on these boards if all you want to do is bring negative energy with your negative posts.

Can we call this topic 'over' and 'done with' now already? I'd bet not.. I'd bet someone, maybe even yourself, is going to fire back with yet another immature response.

Personally I get a riot out of it but at the same time I want to try to teach you youngins some respect and that's why I reply to the attacks against myself.

You know the saying "you learn something new everyday?" Well, you just did, congratulations to you, too. I hope your message board ettiquite gets better, kid.

*pats ya on the back*
