Ftp To A Frag Box, Rescue C:
« on: December 12, 2004, 05:45:00 AM »

I have been reading tuts for the past 6-7 hours to solve a problem.
I was following  UXE exploit using Splinter Cell game save hack.
in a nutshell, i deleted everything in my e: drive!!!
Including SC game save. Now I cant ftp to my xbox. I have backed up everything, including bios and eprom
When i cold bood my xbox, I dont get any dash, not even M$, I get the "Your Xbox Requirese Service" in six languages.

I guess my only option is hotswapping, but I would like to hear another option.
Could some one please point me in the right Direction.

I have a 1.0 box, with k = 3944 and d = 5690.
Here is where things get really interesting

My softmod is partially done.
I have the M$ dash renamed to msdash.xbe
and my evox dash now called xboxdash.xbe
I have the update fonts in the font directory, and ihave a f0nts directory with the old files.
I have also patched the update.xbe file.
I guess the problem here is, i used brett_generic.
ANYHOW, i want to get ftp access so I could get thing right.
FOR SOME GOD FOR SAKEN REASON, I DELETED the contents of the e: dirive before putting some files for the exploits.

In hopes of getting a boot cd to work, i have used i verbatim dvd-r, hp dvd+-re (i know they wont work) and couple of cd rws.
But none of them worked.

I have been reading, searching and reading.
I CANT go about using xboxhdm or hotswapping BECAUSE I have a laptop (from my college)

I REALLY REALLY WANT FTP ACCESS TO MY BOX, OR ANY OTHER WAYS TO GET MY BACKUP BACK TO THE E: DRIVE.

Please point me to the right directions.

you don't need to hotswap when you have your eeprom.bin

you will, however, have to open your xbox and install the drive in a pc (no hotswap, do it with all power cables unplugged)

ftp access is out of the question... imho

I had left either hot swapping or using xboxhdm as my last resort.
I tried booting evox from cd and dvd, but i dont know why it dosent wor. My be, the exploit is incomplete.

So, you would say xboxhdm is the best tool for this. Is there a simpler tool, just to get some files back on e:
And I have been reading the tut on xboxhdm. But just so i dont do some thing worse...
I basically need to boot from xboxhdm cd, unlock the retail hd, put the back up back to e:
and lock the drive back up ....
do i really need to unlock the retail hd, if i just want to put some files back on e:
xboxhdm can browse fatx file system right?

thanks

in my case when I do get that service notification I can still boot originals.  Couldn't you pull up the exploit again and ftp in?

He deleted everything on his e:\, so no gamesave to load into as a backdoor.

xboxhdm is the best option.  Just start fresh using the 'repair c:\'  option in xboxhdm, it will be a lot easier then any other method, really.  Your 'half done' exploit is no good if you can't access the files to fix them.  As I say, starting fresh is your easiest option.

My friend did something similar, but I dont have the bios... He wants me to fix it for him. I dont wanna rip his open unless absolutely possible. I have the gamesave on a memory card and it wont boot so no evox. Is there something i am doing wrong or is it just that bad? Is my only option to hotswap with my xbox?

If you have 007, try using that. I know that 007 does allow booting a gamesave off of a memory card, but some peeps have claimed that this doesnt work, or its really buggy to do.

I havent tried it myself, but it is worth a shot.

I got the problem solved using xboxhd. Thanks freiko.

since i deleted all my game save, i had no way of ftp-ing.
Now, it works like a charm. I went the route of UXE.
What do you think is the best route to take from UXE and PBL, what greater heights.
I am running emulators right now, and it looks fine. Except for Kawa-X. Its like a neo-geo emulater but hangs all the time.

thanks everyone for your input.

well, almost all exploits are set to look into the E:\UDATA\XXXXXXXXXXXX\XXXXXXXXXXX dir, so if you are going to load the game from a memory card, it will give you the error 21 (file error I beleave).  This is because it starts to load from the memory card, but the exploit then turns to the dir as listed above, and in your case, nothing is there, its still all on the memory card.

To fix this you have to hex edit the default.xbe to look to the memory card, and you have to be carefull on doing this. here is how it should be hexed....

x:y = "drive letter"\UDATA\XXXXXXXXX\XXXXXXXXXXX
(x) = Controller (y) = memcard slot (1 = top, 2 = bottom)

1:1 = H:\
1:2 = I:\
2:1 = J:\
2:2 = K:\
3:1 = L:\
3:2 = M:\
4:1 = N:\
4:2 = O:\

So, if you are going to use controller 2, and the bottom memory card slot (as an example), you will want to use the K:\UDATA\XXXXXXXX\XXXXXXXXXXX, but in normal cases, you are going to use controller one, top memory card slot, so you will want to hex default.xbe to point to H:\UDATA\XXXXX\XXXXXXXX\whatever.xbe, and dont forget to re-sign it with habibi key when done.

sorry for putting it so incriptive, but its late and I cant think of a better way to explain it right now.......

just a general question.
On a retail HD, what is the free space distribution.
Evox says you have xxx.xxx.xxx free space, but that dont make a lot of sense.

It makes perfect since. your freespace display on evox is in bytes
so if you had 500,000,000 left on the C: drive, that would mean 500 megs.

Remember like this.

1 comma = KB's
2 commas = MB's Megabytes
3 commas = GB's Gigabytes
4 commas = TB'2 <~~~ these drives are not currently available. wink.gif

As far as the format of the parts. it breaks down to about
C: 520 megs
E: 5 gigs
X 768 megs
Y 768 megs
Z 768 megs
