Fastweb And Gateway
« on: January 26, 2004, 01:02:00 AM »

Hi. I got my first fine KAI experience yesterday, but I needed to attach both the XBOX and the PC with KAI to the fastweb HUB:

   ----------------- PC
   |
-------
HUB|  --------- XBOX
-------

Normally, I have this network topology:

------
HUB|
-------
  |
GATEWAY/Firewall
  |
  |
SWITCH--- another PC
  |
  |
SWITCH --- XBOX
  |
  |
PC  with KAI

The internal adressing is 192.168.1.X (subnet mask 255.255.255.0)
There is some way to configure the gateway to having it to work?
I forwarded UDP port 300000 to the PC (and I've told that to kai) but nothing worked.
Please give me some hint.
Thank you very much!
I hope the scheme can be viewed fine.... no fixed width font here. Thanx!

300000? or 30000?

Ports only go to 65356 or around that number...

Whoa, I fear I used the wrong one! Thank you very much, I'll try this evening.
What else is needed?
Thank you!

her.
Not sure to understand. It have to be *higher* or *lower* than 65000 ?
Yesterday I used (in vain) 30000.
Now it seems ports > 65000 cannot be forwarded... am I wrong?

Thanx again

Lower that 65000, but generally, choose something about 1000 (the first 1000 ports are usually reserved for services such as SMTP, NNTP, POP3, HTTP, FTP etc etc).

As I have RC2 Omega and RC3 Kai, I just use the 34518 port-forward I've set on my router for RC2 Omega.

ok, so port redirecting does not work to me. What else can I do? What does mean

"If you are able to see someone's ping, but they can't see yours, it's possible that you will ALSO have to nominate a single UDP port-forward on your router."

Thank you very much...

cartelli = febs??

Hello smile.gif

30000 UDP will do fine .. your problem yesteday was something to do with the OpenBSD firewall - it was blocking incoming traffic on 30000 UDP even though you had told it not to.

I think maybe you should look into the rules on the firewall - maybe there is some other rule like "block all incoming UDP for which there was no outgoing UDP"?

The fact that it worked OK yesterday while bypassing the firewall means that strictly you dont need to forward any ports - it would work fine on port 0 - but if you need to keep that level of strictness on the firewall for all other UDP ports, you must force port 30000, and allow it through the firewall.

Also, because you are fastwebs and have Dual Interface - you will need to think of another port - maybe 40000 - and do the same think (allow it) - then put it in the "Deep Port" box on the launcher.exe - the "deep" port is used by other fastweb members to connect...

Hope this heps

I think I've noticed something with the detection of XBoxes, but not entirely sure yet. The detection sometimes doesn't work when the XBox is already on and in a system link area searching for games. Run Kai first, then go to whatever game and have it search for games.

I'm sure this isn't your problem, but I've noticed it on a few occassions with myself.

As for my observation, TD has confirmed it is just a UI issue, and that the device is actually being detected (I remember seeing this in the debug console).

I just wanted to know one simple thing.
Please answer me.
I've tested KAI deeply. I never reached a successful connection.
But...I do not play on the TV.
I play on a CRT monitor. On this video, due to the modification of the cable,  I can play only in progressive scan (yes I have the ntsc cube and ntsc games)
I see users. I see the ping. (remember that I'm a fastweb user with private IP) i see that dynamic recasting works well, but when I try to play for example with starlink (fastweb user, private IP, PAL  cube PAL games) the LAN MK session never started.
my cube count down reaches zero and exit the LAN mode.
there some known  problem about different version or different visualization?
thanxx in advance.
=)

if youre on an ntsc cube, and you're playing the ntsc mariokart, you wont be able to connect to starlink, since  he's got the pal version.
playing pal vs ntsc doesnt work (yet)
