Editing Mayhem Iii
« on: June 08, 2006, 12:41:00 PM »

When I open up the skin editor everythign starts up nicely and what not, and I can load Project Mayhem III with no errors. The question comes in here.....how the hell do I edit the files? I can only open up the images and not do anything to them, and i can only open the skin.xml which is of no help.

I'm sorry for the retardedness of this

You can also edit xml files in the PAL directory, or do a preview skin (still in development so does not alot). The application is still only at an early stage of development so your not going mad, its just not at a useable stage yet for editing or previewing skins. I plan to have several ways of editing skins...

1) Wizard style approach
2) Drag and drop visual method
3) Syntax Highlighted XML editing (context sensitive)

However for 3) I do need alot more donations so I can achieve this in a timely manner (need about another £160 as of writing this) so please donate if you can it will help greatly.

I am currently working on some of the key stuff that works behind the scenes so as soon as that is done you will start to see some nice features coming into the application.

EqUiNoX,

For number 3, I will actually help you out a bit... well, maybe alot...

Do a google search on "Notepad 2", you will find something awesome...
WwW(dot)flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

This is licensed under GPL, and is open source.

Here's a quick list of the features for your drooling:
    - Customizable syntax highlighting:
    - HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, VBScript, ASP, PHP, CSS, Perl/CGI
    - C/C++, C#, Java, VB, Pascal, Assembler, SQL, Python, NSIS
    - INI, REG, INF, BAT, DIFF
  - Drag & drop text editing inside and outside Notepad2
  - Basic regular expression search and replace
  - Useful word, line and block editing shortcuts
  - Rectangular selection (Alt+Mouse)
  - Brace matching, auto indent, long line marker, zoom functions
  - Support for Unicode, UTF-8, Unix and Mac text files
  - Open shell links
  - Mostly adjustable

This is what I use to edit all xml files and txt files on the windows boxes I have to use, and highly reccomend using for your Syntax Highlighting.

Regards,

Ive spent a while now trying to get scintilla to do what I want it to do in a .NET environment. Documentation to the control is hardly existant and appears the .NET version is un-complete. So please help by keeping those donations coming in, your money will be spent wisely and you will all be able to reap the rewards in coming versions of the editor.
