Tsop Partial Erase
« on: January 13, 2004, 09:27:00 AM »

Last night it looks like I fragged another xbox. On this 1MB v1.1 xbox I was performing the 007AUF TSOP flash hack.

I first ran raincoat and received manf=0x09, dev=0x00. I knew this meant my soldering job was not up to speck. I did it again and then when I ran raincoat I received this.

# ./raincoat -p bios.bin
raincoat Flasher  0.5  Apr 14 2003  [email protected]  http://xbox-linux.sf.net
Reading /etc/raincoat.conf... (unable to open /etc/raincoat.conf, using default
list)

DETECTED: ST M29F080A (1024K)
Programming with bios.bin...Read 1048576 bytes from file
Erasing...
Trying to erase whole chip
 ERASE ERROR AT +0x0...read 0x0B
 Done
Error: Erase failed for block at +0x0, reads as 0x0B
  Could your chip be write-protected?
Completed

When I tried again I received.

UNKNOWN DEVICE Read Only??? manf=0xFF, dev=0xFF
Try adding the device ID to /etc/raincoat.conf

Now my xbox frags. From what I read I might or might not be able to perform the MatrixTSOP Flash repair (it depends on if I have a partial bios or not). I'm going to try
So, You Screwed Up Your X-box, How to make things work... and see if that will let me repair this.

More importantly I would like to know what happened. What would cause it to start erasing and then crap out right after it started? I have used this same bios file in a mutiplitude of xboxs and did everything for the most part the same.

Thanks for yout input.

try putting both a19 and a18 to different combinations of 3.3v and ground to boot form all 4 quarter individually and see if any has a good bios in it
