Free60: Initial support for big-endian FATX-- Posted by XanTium on December 18 01:34 EST
From free60.org:

Quote

Patch from Frederic Deletang to handle big-endian FATX variant for Xbox 360 is now in the xbox-linux project CVS repository (module `kernel'). Against Linux 2.4.32.

Note/Update: The Xbox 360 HDD has FATX partitions and they seem to be a Big Endian version of the 1st Generation Xbox FATX filesystem. Above news says initial support for this filesystem has been added to the 2.4.32 linux kernel.

And what does this actually mean?

I thought XTAF was already supported?

Thx :-)

So the x360 hdd has XTAF and Big Endian FATX partitions? Why would they use two sort of partition styles? Its like having one fat32 and one ntfs partition on one hdd. Whats the use? or am i wrong?

The big-endian FATX partition on the 360 hard drive we would assume be for the Xbox emulator to use, right?  And the XTAF would most likely be for 360 game/dashboard usage.

no we cant browse the files on the xbox360 hard drive just yet..

this is simply just support for the hard drive/filesystem in future xbox360 ports of linux..

this gives linux the support to mount the hardrive partitions and theres a python script floating around that lets you dump the files.
