What version is your Xbox?
What makes you think that your Xbox 'overheats'?
What happens when your Xbox 'overheats'?
What information do the temperature-sensors give you (only <1.6)?

Just an update. Have moved the xbox out of the stereo rack and now the temperature is 65 degrees and never hangs. :-)

you should also replace the heatsink gum with some good thermal grease. i noticed 6c - 10c drop in temp.

hey

Well if you´ve switched to a low noice fan, you probably  put a to low Cfm fan in it.. i´ll say that a 21db fan is minimum.. remember the hotter the xbox gets the sharter it´s life time is..  and well 21db isnt´ really much different then a 14db.. unless you have removed the Gpu fan on the 1.0 or switched harddrive.

your fan spins too slowly and thus moves too little air. 71 C is the cutoff temperature for the Xbox - at which point it will experience a thermal shutdown. you're pretty close to that by having 65 C as your normal operating temp! i would get a better fan and keep the temperature in the 40's.

if you havent done the 12v fan mod, then the fan is only spinning at what? probably less then 50% of its total capicity speed. and that means shit all air is being moved. 12volts is the way to go.

and with teh temps ur running, it definitley cant be doign your xbox any good at all. it needs to be coooled down again to save its life span

If you are going to bother doing the fan mod you might as well get a better fan.  This way you can have it at 12v and it wont sound real loud.  It will take some modding of the drive bays which puts many people off but its worth it.  Quieter than the regular fan and more cooling...you can't go wrong  smile.gif

19 cfm? THAT"s your problem. you need to have a fan that pushes between 23 and 28 cfm to maintain good temperatures.
