i flashed my sammy with the 0800 firmware and it still didnt pick up.  i heard i might need some kind of 0800 disc also?  wat a waste of a DL disc.  i might just wait for ixtreme 1.6, i heard there will be 0800 capibilities..

It depends. I use a Samsung SH-D163B. It was the easiest solution because I don't have an extra Xbox drive laying around. It works just like an "0800" drive because it rips everything off the disc that you need such as the SS, DMI, PFI(but you already knew that). So no need to patch with ABGX. I don't trust that program anyways, I like making real legitimate copies. I recommend XBC, I've used it many times with no problems whatsoever plus it has an image checking tool. If the .iso checks out with XBC then it is stealth. With XBC its just rip and burn, no additional steps. I burn with IMGBurn at 2.4x. Long story short, wait until Ixtreme 1.6 comes out for your drive and that will simplify the process a lot. Umm, with MLB2K9 did you use the new version of ABGX?

you need to HAVE the via drivers if you connect it to the via card. Also are you sure it's not available in the drop box of XBC?

you can also connect it with a usb to sata deal:

I plug the sata to 360 drive USB to PC

PSU from said kit to CK to 360 drive

It's like a plug and play device

you need to flash it before it will get picked up. also depends on how you connect it, as mentioned.
