Alternative To The Xbox Wireless Adapter...

D-Link makes a product called the "Travel Router."

It's essentially their DI-524 802.11G router in a very, very small box.  The main difference is a small switch on the bottom that allows you to change it between router, AP, and client modes.  Client mode is the easiest way to get it working with your Xbox 360.

The part number is DWL-G730AP

It can be had from Office Depot in the US for 49 bucks, or half what you'd pay for the Xbox adapter.  smile.gif

the regular xbox wireless adapter, MN-740, works well too, and can be had on ebay for $30 + s/h roughly.  I flashed mine with the d-link firmware to get WPA support, and it works great

I have been a big fan of the buffalo g54s (about $40-50) flashed with dd-wrt.  You can configure it as a wireless Bridge to link the 360 to your wireless network.  Works great with Xbox live, though I am still trying to figure out how to stream through the bridge...

Is there any configuration required with the Dlink Travel Router or does it just plug directly into the Xbox 360 via the cat5 patch cable?  Also - is anyone using this with a 802.11b wireless router?  Is there any degradation?  This could be a cheap excuse to upgrade my router to 802.11g......haven't had to - so I have put it off.....

I'm also wondering if it's necessary to re-flash DWL-G730AP to make it compatible with XBOX 360. I need to know that because I'm having thoughts about a purchase. If it needs to be flashed or configured, please tell me with what etc.

I'm a swede, so please don't complain about my english.

can this be an alternative Buffalo WCAG. I find it very good, as I read many good things of Buffalo.

Only thing in all descriptions talk about Nintendo and PS3.

Here is the link to where I will purchase from, as there is a local store few miles from home. http://www.circuitcity.com/ccd/productDeta...CustomerRatings

Well I don't know if you are just looking for wireless.  I found the best alternative to the network cable straight into the router is a Powerline Adapter. Unlike wireless at 54mb the newer Powerline adapters are 85mb and they plug into any wall power outlet. No worries about signal strength or distance.

They can be found at most stores but make sure its the 85mb ones and not the older 15mb. If you have dsl you can probably order from your ISP. Sorry I don't know if cable ISP carry them.
