I'm sure some have already found this out and am using it but for those that are not...

What's needed:
- Device you want to connect wirelessly but doesn't have wireless adapter (or you don't want to buy one
- Linksys WRT54G series wireless router
- Understanding of this: http://www.wi-fiplan...cle.php/3562391

I'm not going to go into much detail as there are tutorials all over the net. At the time of this writing, the WRT54GC was selling for $60 CAD at CanadaComputers.

Simply what you need to so is to reflash the WRT54G series with the free Alchemy (or paid Talisman) firmware from: http://www.sveasoft.com/

After that, the WRT54G will act as a wireless bridge. Just connect your wired device to it and setup the WRT54G to connect to your existing wireless network. Of course you could probably use this to be more sophisticated with 'bandwidth borrowing' but I won't go there.

I thought I'd start the discussion here and let others fill in the gaps where needed. Technically, it's not difficult and should take no more than 30 minutes even for the most tech-challenged.

DISCLAIMER: I make no claims or warranties about flashing your WRT54G in any way!

Try using DD-WRT instead of the sveasoft software. I find that it works much better.

I'll simplify your tutorial a little bit.

What's needed:
  • Linksys WET54G OR
  • Linksys WET54GS5

done.

Too bad a WET costs more than the WRT.. AND pretty much on par with the wireless adapter for XBOX 360! That's not the point now is it?

I was making a separate point.
example @newegg
wet54g = $80
wrt54g = $75

ms wireless adapter = $100

Generally people have a router and can't move it near their xbox to make it a bridge, etc.  So they'd have to buy something else and it would be easier for $5 difference to get the bridge instead of another router and then load new unsupported firmware on it.  (esp just to make it a bridge).  As you can see buying an actual bridge is still cheaper than the msft adapter.  Those firmware images are great if you need to do specialized things like a linux honeypot for folks... but just for a bridge? seems like overkill in more ways than one.

I just got me a v4 WRT54G and was wondering if someone can explain the easiest and most straightforward way of doing this.

Thanks

yeah, i agree all sounds a bit too unnecessarily complicated to me.

I've been using a netgear WGE111 for over 12 months now on xbox 1 and with my 360 and it's real no hassle way of connecting to my wireless network.

roughly £55 gbp as opposed to £60 gbp for the xbox one.

just my two penneth

Not sure if any one is still looking at this thread but here is how to do this with the WRT54G.
