Problem Lunching Xenesis 0.97b From Dvd-r/cd-rw
« on: February 06, 2004, 07:13:00 AM »

Hi!

First of all, i would say that xenesis is a great emulator, with a  nice and friendely GUI and a great compatibility.

-But, i have a probleme when lunching Xenesis from the DVD Drive (D:)
Somes parts of the Gui are missing (all the text in the center) so i cannot browse the disks to find my roms??!!
-this is doesn't occur when installing xenesis on F: drive.

Spec :

Xbox PAL 1.0
Xecuter 2.3b+
bios 4980
Last Evox

DVD-R burned with nero 6, ISO/UDF, XBOX compatibility mode

Maybe the error come because he don't find the font files?

Thank you for your help :)

PS : some possible improvement :
-specifie a default ROM folder (eg : d:\roms)
-possibility to put all screenshots in a spécific folder (titleshots)
-Add the "run fast" button

First off,

Xenesis isn't designed to be run from DVD. It is meant to be installed on the HDD and lets you access your roms from pretty much anywhere you like.

The basic install takes about 3MB of disk space - so it isn't as if it'll eat up HDD your HDD.

Now, to your suggestions:-
Default rom path - because of the way Xenesis is designed (see above) there is no need for a default path. Simply install Xenesis on the HDD - browse to the folder where you keep your roms and add that folder to the favourites. THen go to the UI Options menu and enable 'Start in favourites'

Screenshots are stored in TDATA\\fff3faaa\\screenshots. I put them there cos I like to keep my xbox tidy and if I wanted to remove all trace of Xenesis I can do it using the game save manager in the MS dash.

"run fast" button - try holding the left trigger and pushing the right thumbstick to the right.

I hate running anything off DVD, I think my Sammy has probably only been used 20 times for ripping original games and that first time I installed a new HD.

Sorry but it's unlikely to happen with Xenesis.

Personally I think it better to run an emu from the HDD - makes it much easier to upgrade the emus as you don't have to burn a new disc everytime.

Sorry gonna ask a stupid question now but I wouldn't be asking it if I knew already, what type of games does Xenesis? Not the genesis is it?

Thanks

Well i think its just nicer as i can then use it on my PC and take to friends easier...

Yes you can install Xenesis on the HDD and access roms on a DVD (as well as SMB share, relax share and iso9660 format disc)

To be honest I haven't worked on MESS for a while, have gotten sidetracked by another emulation project just lately.

Have also lost motivation for the MESS project - not sure how useful it will be to have it on the 'box.

So at the moment I'm not sure what will happen to it!

it's very difficult to make xenesis runnable from dvddrive? it has only to made him compatible with D: drive (he will continue to use E: drive for saves/configs)

It seems that the actual problem concern only paths of some media files ??

thankyou!  <

It wouldn't be difficult at all. I just have no interest in making it work that way.

Since I started working on 0.97 I always had it in mind to run from the HDD - sort of a Genesis emulation dashboard if you will. It just makes more sense to me to have the emu on the HDD and be able to load roms from pretty much anywhere.

To be honest I have no idea what is causing the problem you described - but it is NOT missing media files. If any of the fonts etc are missing or can't be loaded then Xenesis won't load at all.
