Help, Whenever I try to load Mame-X up to play some Neo Geo Roms it just sits at the Looking for Roms bit and doesn't nothing. I've only got 2 games in my roms folder, just Metal Slug 1 and 2.  Is that all is needed to play Neo Geo Games?   think I've tried everyhting but still can't get it to load the games. Any help would be apprechiated.

Look for something called neogeo.zip that has 4 necessary bios images...  it's usually packaged together and you stick it in your rom directory along with the other images..

I'm having problems with that too. I have that neogeo.zip in my rom directory, but i heard that the xbox only unzips once, so it cant unzip two seperate files. Do i have to unzip both files and combine them into one zip? i haven't tried, but can someone verify this?

did u try mame-x in neo geo mode?, ie blue background screen

Yes, you should try to switch to the Neo-Geo/CPS-2 "blue" mode.

You swtich to this mode by pressing "B" in the rom selection screen.

And no, you do not need to zip the bios images with the game roms.

OK I tried that but still no go, the neogeo.zip file is only like 57k or so right? Well thats in my roms directory, but it still just hangs at looking for roms.  Why does it keep doing this? I'm goona try downloading a new version of mame or maybe and older one

Actually it should give you a different error if all you need is the neogeo files, it will say something like neo-geo.rom ng-lo.rom and some other files are missing.  I think you're having some other problems like Mame-x is not finding the roms directory or something, you should try downloading mame-x from a different source or something.

Pal Xbox running Mame Beta 6.

I put neogeo.zip, mslug.zip and mslug2.zip in my roms directory.  Loaded mame, pressed 'B' to goto neogeo mode.  Selected Metal Slug and played to my hearts content.

When you try and load it what does it actually say/do on screen?

I load up Mame from Evo X and then it shows some credits thing down the bottom and then starts looking for roms, cos it says searching for roms.  Only prob is that it looks forever, and it doesn't find anything cos its jst appears to hang there. I only got 1 rom there now and the neogeo.zip bios file in my roms directory. D i ahve the edit the ini file or antyhing like that?

Mines set out like this...

Using Mame-x Beta 6 my (unedited) .ini files says...

So even though the ini says the roms are one place they seem to be working fine from the other place.

Download a fresh unedited copy of the ini and try again.

I hjave the bios in a zip file in my roms directory
I ahve Metal Slug and verious Others games zipped in my roms directory.

WTF is going on?

Have you got any roms other than neo geo games?  By default it shows a list of none neo geo games so if you've not got any that could be where you're going wrong.

And it's not a POS, you just don't know how to fuggin use it!

Soz man, moment of frustration and desperation.  Heres what I've done so far:

Download MameX Beta 6
Upload it to my Xbox  here: e:\emulators\mame-x
stuck 7 neo geo games into the roms directory as well as the Neo Geo Bios. Like Blazing star, Bomberman and a few metal slugs.

tried running it and still no go, just did this process about 10mins ago again, for like the 63rd time.  I don't know whats wrong with it. I've done everyhting right. or haven't it? I didn't edit the ini file, I just left it as is.
Heres what the directory structure looks like:

e:\emulators\Mame-X\                 Main files here, like the 2 xbe's and the ini
e:\emulators\Mame-X\roms         Roms and bios in here
e:\emulators\Mame-X\samples        I dunno what this is for so I just left it
e:\emulators\Mame-X\media       Just 1 font xpr file.

Please help, I think I've done everything right, so why no go?

You've not unzipped the roms have you?  As they're meant to be zipped.

Other than that it looks fine to me.

make sure you have NEO GEO BIOS file contents in each NEO GEO game zip file!!!!
