Samba Shares (smb)
« on: April 07, 2009, 10:21:00 AM »

I'm sorry if by any chance this is an already asked question i'm new, does the 360 support samba shares and if it does how do i use it. Don't tell me about Windows Media Player's Media sharing because i don't like Windows Media Player and i have already got a good setup for SMB shares for my Wii and Xbox 1

Q: Is it possible to stream these files over a network?
A:
Certainly.  It can be streamed the same way as other media files, with MediaPlayer 11, Zune software, from Windows Home Server, or almost any UPnP media server (eg: Xbox1 running a current build of XBMC, UPnP/DLNA enabled NAS, UPnP pc server such as Twonkymedia or Tversity etc), or using Windows Media Connect 2.  Microsoft has dropped support for Windows Media Connect, but it is still a viable option for streaming from your PC.  Although it is not linked on their site any longer you can still download it HERE from MS servers. Samba shares do not work.
