Media Center Authorization/security Key?
« on: March 10, 2006, 12:58:00 AM »

Hey guy's!  Just picked up a 360 yesterday and was setting everything up with only one problem so far.  I installed the software from www.xbox.com/pcsetup and when selecting pictures/music I can access my computer without a problem.  How ever, when I click on the media center icon it takes me to a screen that detects the computer and then gives me my security key.  I then click next and it sits on a screen that says "install the software at xbox.com/pcsetup and enter the security key when asked"  Well the software is installed and I have no idea where I can enter that key.  The software itself see's the xbox, the pictures/music sees it.  But the media center wont let me go past that screen (the a button is greyed out)  Any ideas on how to enter this key and get past that screen?  I'm a 360 noob but I know pc's fairly well and i'm lost.

OK, after doing some research.  In order to click that icon and actually be able to stream video you need to have windows xp media center edition OS on your PC?  Can someone verify this for me?

Thanks!

Yes. You are required to have Windows XP Media Center Edition as your operating system on your PC in order to stream videos to your Xbox 360.

this still won't work

you will need either the MS network adapter or some other ethernet cable than what you have or can buy for the 360

i had same problem, i tried to mess with it for a couple hours, and i came to the conclusion that i needed the adapter

there are going to be more hassles even after you get the ms network adapter

OK in order to get the 360 with the MCE PC to work, you have download that file from the website they give you.  You install it, click I agree, blah blah blah, they it will ask you for the 8-digit key that was on the screen before the website screen.  Enter that, WHILE THE 360 IS ON THE SCREEN WITH THE WEBSITE THAT SAYS WWW.XBOX.COM/PCSETUP.  If you read the very bottom it tells you to leave the 360 on that screen when installing.  Once your computer sees the 360, the screen will change, they have to see each other and "talk with each other" to make the connection.  Also for anyone running McAfee Security Center, you need to open certin ports, on the program, there were like 8 of them I got from a M$ rep.  I had to Uninstall mine for my 360 and PC to see each other.  Anyother qustions feel free to shoot me a PM or a e-mail, or IM me on AIM @ ThirdnF1nalBea5t  Enjoy.  Streaming Porn is awesome  (IMG:style_emoticons/default/muhaha.gif)

I was wondering if anyone could help me out

A friend has given me a copy of XP Media Center Edition
which I installed on a family members PC and it work perfectly
which I then removed and reinstalled their XP

However after installing the same software on my own system, I tried to open up Media center but it doesn't seem to work

I click the icon but then screen seems to get messed up

it turns black but in the upper left hand corner it seems to have lines and like some images that are to distorted to make out
I tried clicking around on the page and sometimes I hear that the mouse must be on a selectable option but I just cannot see anything

I tried setting up the software I got from xbox.com/pcsetup       but that just tells me I have to run the setup on MCE first

is there anyway I can get around the setup wizard at the start of Media Center??
or can anyone offer any ideas???
