Some General Info About Hl2 Modding.
« on: September 20, 2012, 05:31:00 PM »

I would like to see full pc to xbox map support, which is possible. we need a well written HowTo on this. I think it would be cool to make a bot type map with cs skins if we could get them imported as well as the sounds. I know the engine on the xbox is somewhat limited as there is only a controller to work with? has anyone tried remapping the configuration for the xbox controller for a keyboard?  instead of"BACK" or "JOYSTICK" change it to a keyboard mapping? I am not aware whats possible. maybe someone with some hl2 modding knowledge could have some input on this.

with a little more researching i found your map http://halflife2.fil...Lobby_Map;33808  further reading shows that there was no lighting in this map..I wil try older maps with lighting ASAP and with the old sdk i have i believe i can just make a map and replace it with the credits.bsp I will attempt this tonight after reading a tutorial i found on how to make  map. another issue i have before continuing is beating the game again to get the credits option to be clickable  tongue.gif  or i could load a game save on there but i hate messing with UDATA folders.. is importing a counter strike model/skin or a cs weapon possible?

Since I can't edit the post for some reason, here's Lynx b8 reuploaded to Dropbox: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/ezqc1oag16b86nw/Lynxb8.exe?dl=1

If you are using Windows Vista/7/8 launch the app as an administrator to avoid random problems.

Here's some extra information:
-Multiplayer was most likely planned. There are quite a few files that hint at multiplayer. Could be some left over files from the pc version, though
-There are left overs from the Half-Life 2 beta. You can find some sound scripts from E3 2002-2003 demo maps (e3_bugbait, e3_c17, etc.)
-There is a debug menu, like in the pc version (there you press Shift + F1 to access it). I don't know how to get to it on the Xbox version, I found a debug menu cheat code on Google (Start, Up(6), Down, Start, Up(3), Down) but it doesn't work for me. If you know a way to get to it, please let me know.

This may sound silly but stranger things have happened. Plug in a USB keyboard (via Xbox/USB adapter) and try Shift + F1. Maybe that bit of code was "left over" too?

Lynx Beta 8 Download - http://uploading.com/files/m8448d28/Lynxb8.exe/ (PM Me if the link is dead)

A video showing a custom map running on the Xbox - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YYzpBY4CfI

Now, on the graphics. dxsupport_xbox.cfg has a few different settings, but messing with them causes weird and not in place textures. Enabling DX8.1 (HL2 normally runs in DX8) doesn't seem to make a difference. Anti Aliasing doesn't seem to work (or maybe it causes weird textures, I don't remember)

Running hl2_xbox.xbe instead of default.xbe skips the cache check (skips all the videos too) and so you can experiment with your own cache edits (like the dxsupport_xbox edit).

You can make your own intro videos by converting WMV to XMV.

Maps work from around 2004/2005. In the video is used a map called 'lobby' (download: http://uploading.com/files/emc5a1b7/lobby.bsp/ ) Replacing the map 'credits.bsp' in the folder GameMedia\maps, with for example lobby.bsp and replacing the name to credits.bsp, when you run the chapter Credits, your custom map will run. We need an old version of Hammer (or atleast old compiling files) and we could create our own custom maps. The textures have a purple and black box thingy, maybe using the command 'buildcubemaps' might fix this.

This is amazing! I wonder if there are any good single player mods for Half-Life 2. For that matter, I wonder how difficult it would be to port the original Half-Life's levels over.
