Two Questions: Search And Streaming

To rule out the Xbox, connect it to the router or to a switch with an ethernet cable. I am not very good with wireless.

I tried Netgear Powerline adapters. They are great for playing LAN games. They aren't too good at streaming video or transferring via FTP. Even the HD Versions of them. So, I would suspect that the wireless is limiting your video streaming. You can play with the Cache settings in XBMC to see if that would work.

All I can recommend is using SMB or CCXGUI to stream video through your router from pc to xbox. Of course you should forward the correct ports if needed, which linksys routers usually don't need. Transferring to the xbox is much slower and doesn't work any better than streaming through the previously mentioned programs.
