Just a quick thought!

Is your PC using the same IP address as it always has done i.e the one specified in the xboxmediacentre.xml that you haven't changed for ages

I take it that lower down in the "My PC" share bit where it says:

<path>smb://PC NAME/MySharedDrives</path>

it looks like this on yours:

<path>smb://192.168.0.1/MySharedDrives</path>

Also, this may sound stupid but from your PC can you ping your xbox on 192.168.0.3?

If not check that Your Xbox's Subnet mask is the same as your PC's.

255.255.255.0 is acceptible for both ( I use 255.255.255.240 to limit my Lan to 16 Hosts)

If you can ping it - post back cos that means I can skip ahead somewhat in suggestions.

EDIT: Just re-read this thread and to answer your question about NTFS........ Basically no NTFS won't stop this working (It's what most people use)BUT...
NTFS gives you more options with file permissions - so you can lock people out.

Hey here's a quick suggestion:

Try this, edit your smb share in xboxmediacentre.xml to look like this:

<path>smb://user:[email protected]/MySharedDrives/</path>

Where user and password (try administrators account) is someone who definately has access to that shared drive from the PC on which it is shared.

If it works - great - proves that there is comms between xbox - XP and subnet etc is correct, so probably an error in your shares settings...

If not, well probably a network error...

Hey Ruddyrum,

You said you were using MCE, have you just installed to 2005 ?
Alot of people are having troubles netwotking 2005, something do about the lack of domain support.
Or do you have any MCE extenders on your network ?
Again they seem to block other connections.

I'm gonna make a note of this incase my MCE starts messing up again.

I can't wait till XBMC supports .DVR-MS files that'll save me alot of messing around...

CODE
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.7.1
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.7.1

The IP Address is your PCs IP Address.  Once you have this you can close down the command prompt window (cmd.exe).

You can now fill out the path bookmark in your  xboxmediacentre.xml file. e.g.

Before edit:

CODE

    Put your own Alias here
    smb://user:password@ip/share/directory/

After edit:

CODE

    Comedy
    smb://xbox:[email protected]/Videos/Comedy

Hope this helps
