When Playing Music On Xbmc
« on: March 10, 2005, 11:01:00 AM »

1)  How do I set a default music folder
2)  How do I make it so after one song finishes it either A) Doesn't play any other songs.. or B)  Plays a random song, rather than the one right below it.. because the songs are alphabetical order and I don't like it that way.

1st suggestion do a search on the forum

-your first question can be solved using bookmarks in the xboxmediacenter.xml, very straight forward

-your second question can be answered by playlist shuffle, when you press y on the gamepad it adds it to the playlist (either one song or whole folder) then if you press the black button while in my music it goes to your playlists, the select randon or shuffle....there you go....

the only thing that xbmc doesnt do for music right now is crossfading....but i am sure eventually that will come....

hope that helps

Well.. I don't know, when I press Y it does nothing but scroll down one song.  All I did was load xbox media center, hit my music and then search for my music folder (which I have to do everytime) and then I select the song.. and there's no options.  All I know how to do is play a song (A) and stop a song (Start button).. Can't find any other features.

Y == Add to playlist
Black == View playlist

If you add your entire library to a playlist and shuffle it, it'll do what your wanting. Though after you pick a song you may have to select another in the playlist, I am unsure how it will act.

I get it now, thanks guys.

One more question, can you fast forward/rewind songs?  and even pause without stopping the song completely?

yes you need to be in visualisatio mode (press x).  Then if you have a really new release of XBMC you should be bable to use the controller for those functions, right left triger change songs, a to start or pause ect.  If you dont have the latest release then you will either need the xbox remote (which has always worked) or need to edit your keymap.xml file (do a search under my name or for keymap.xml and music, i posted the code you need to change to add this support).

can I update without over writing all my current settings?  I found your coding, just curious, because if you can I'll just update.

Nevermind, I guess I'll have to get along without it.. I updated to the latest version, still doesn't work, and I can't find your code.  Thanks for helping with the original questions, though.

edit:  P.S.  Above where it says I did find it, that was a mistake.

Nevermind again, I got it to work..

BUT.. now I have another issue.  When I skip songs my xbox freezes.. wow, this is my luck.  Any idea why?

To answer your question, they're local to the xbox.  They're in my F:\Apps\XBMC\Music folder.

Just set the log level to 0 (debug) and then tried to skip songs again, it froze like always and here's the log..
