Ubuntu Linux On Xbox? ? ?
« on: December 02, 2006, 11:55:00 PM »

Hi all,

I am wondering if anyone has gotten Ubuntu Linux 6.06 LTS to work on Xbox?

OR If anyone else uses Linux on Xbox, what is the best installation?

Cheers!

the xbox has only 64mb ram - i've tried nearly all the distributions - almost every one is grindingly slow except for x-DSL (damnsmall)...

correct me if I am wrong, but if you have a larger HD than stock(11+gb), couldn't you make a 256MB swap partition to boost the RAM, and thus run it better, even though this will not change the processor speed, it should be able to run alot better eh?(you obviously don't need a HDD larger than stock, but most ppl with stock HDD's are completely full)

Using swap is what makes it grindingly slow. If it was out of memory entirely, it would just not work, rather than running slowly. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

If the current working set (the data currently being touched by the foreground applications you are using, and all background services that they depend on) is larger than your physical RAM then performance will always suck, however much swap space is available, because swap on disk is at least ten times slower than RAM.
