Newbie Chat / Dead Xbox After Reflow
« on: July 13, 2016, 05:12:00 AM »

replacing the caps on the xbox is a real PITA from my experience. there is a massive grounding plane in one of the layers. If you can swap out the caps then go for it, should be cheap like maybe a few bucks and if it works it works. reflows are only good for a few months at best to begin with. I'd just as soon start looking to get a slim so you have an xbox that will last more than a year or two

Newbie Chat / Bought An Xbox And It's Modded, What Now?

As Heimdall said (guy's a legend, seriously he's awesome) backing up your EEPROM is the absolute most important thing to do at this point. They *are* recoverable without a working hard drive, but you will be looking at doing a bit of soldering or purchasing on ebay. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do.

you need to get into FTP in a big way to make this worth while. Your xbox may be on its last legs, I am guessing that it has a 10 GB hard drive, which means it is probably running a stock hard drive. either way, the drive is dying if you hear it clicking. Good news though, you can backup pretty much everything and setup a new hard drive for it (which I would recommend since it's clicking)...

I believe it is, but i'd dare to ask if you are planning on buying an offline only xbox, why not just get a mod chip for it and ignore worries about content..

Newbie Chat / Mod Help

Oh also - very important - if this box hasn't been online in a looooong time and is still on the "blades" firmware for the love of god don't update it. You can JTAG that bastard and it will have a "real" mod

Newbie Chat / Homebrew Help

sadly good tuts are hard to find for the 360. X-S has lost a lot of the core from years ago, and the home-brew scene has as well..

Xbox360 General / 12 Years Later......
« on: January 15, 2015, 02:59:00 AM »

Yeah I saw the XB1 with 1ghz and the 1.4 ghz with a switch.  Both of which were rather ingenious. It's a shame that it wasn't simpler to do. If it could be easily done, along with a ram upgrade to 128 or 256/512 with compatible chips, the XB1 would have pretty much been the best emulator for everything..
