Xbox360 General / Hardware Chat / xk3y firmware v1.20

....pretty poor explanation of what it does....
so i "make" iso's then run then FROM my computer?
whateva...  i guess i'll just stick with iso menu and stop caring ....now.....

You're missing out.... just knocked out a DVD Menu (it's generated by your PC, copied onto the drive) - it works much slicker than the usual ISO Menu. You can even get game trailers.

Closest thing to the old school Xbox dashboards (like MXM) that you can get on the Xbox 360 without completely exploiting it.

It's a DVDmenu. MS won't be so stupid to block DVD playback.

check this:

(the upper video)

Very nice... a very slick solution and has the benefit of using preview videos and essentially a full preview page for the game.

Maybe they could add the capability for instructional screens, too...

not sure what you're talking about but the first batch has already been out and shipped, plenty of people have xkeys. Firmware updates are useful for people who got in the early batches. The stores have also received their second batches and are now shipping them to late comers.

Interesting... I was just going by the "Taking pre-orders now" notes at the sites I've gone to for both the Wasabi and the xk3y.

I'll have to take a look at ordering an xk3y when I get a chance... but a bit swamped financially lately, just moved out my 19yo, who just blew a head gasket in his car... the same week some dumbass pulled out into traffic - in front of my wife's car.

Needless to say, after fixing my wife's car (had to replace the front bumper, among other things, and we're on PLPD) and dealing with my son's situation, the cash flow is pretty bad right now.

...of course, as I said earlier, I'm not too proud to take on a review unit. I'm pretty sure the xk3y guys still have my info.  blink.gif

They have a whole list of places to buy them from on the xkey site.

...and all of those sites have nothing to ship yet, hence the "pre-order" listed in those entries.

I'm not really above offering up my reputation and experience in the scene as a reviewer for these devices...  though I shill for nobody, and it would be a very honest review (though if these devices delivered what they promise and didn't blow up my console, I wouldn't foresee a thumbs down)

I've been waiting patiently for them since they were announced, and now we see endless firmware updates for  products that haven't shipped a single retail unit yet. It's great to see the improvements in the feature sets, but damn frustrating that we can't actually put them to use ourselves. Seems a little like taunting, though I understand that's not their intention.

All these updates are great, but when can I buy this or the Xk3y for my fat 360?

I'll buy the first glitch mod that is (mostly)  solderless.

I don't relish the idea of soldering onto chip legs ever again... especially with my failing eyesight (after radiation treatment).

So this is the Maximus Lizard without the LCD screen?

I have nothing but love for Team Xecuter, but this is kind of a lame way to introduce a copy of a competitor's product.

The lizard works great, BTW.... anybody who says otherwise is just being a petty fanboy. Tools from both "teams" work great, sometimes differently, but they work great. No need for hate here.

OK, ModchipCentral got me a new dongle, temporarily charging me $25 contingent upon returning the bad dongle.

Upon plugging in the new dongle, everything is working great... I launched Skyrim with no issues. Still testing, I will report on other games and using the IsoMenu option, as well.

Overall, this is a slick device. Definitely worth the investment.

OK, tested with the latest games, and everything is working great. I was able to launch games like Battlefield 3, Call of Duty MW3, and Rage without issues. I used the ISO Menu option, which works very well (Press Eject on the console to get the "Picture disc" to select the game, view the game's "folder" then press Eject again.)

I'm pretty happy so far, outside of the dodgy build quality. I had to carve out the mini-USB plug on the cable Mod Central provided, because the port it recessed on the display box and off-kilter (not sure how that happens). The USB Dongle was also not right.... apparently, many people are having problem with this part, mostly because of bad soldering. It seems the ribbon connector part is OK, but the problem lies in the circuit used to snag power from the console. Some people have apparently connected a powered USB hub to the dongle (dongle as host), and then hooked up their display panel and hard drive into the hub, since the data lines to the Xkey seem to be fine (through the ribbon cable).

I have to say, I'm not very happy so far with my XK3y (or X360Key or xkey, whatever the many ways to say it) purchase...

Why?

Just spent the entire evening updating my dash and drive firmware (I hadn't updated since the "drive flashing update"), finally installed the XK3y, only to discover the remote display panel is coming up blank.

Odd... I can plug it directly into my PC and it powers up... and finally, after wiggling the USB Dongle that provides power to the unit, and holding it very carefully, I can get the display to come up and even show the menu.

Unfortunately, as soon as I let go, it blanks out again.

It's a faulty "USB Dongle" that seems to be a big problem with the most recent version of this product. Ugh. Because they opted to attach it to the internal board with a flat ribbon cable, it would require some massive repair work on my part to make workable. Needless to say, I'm not happy at all with the XK3y guys, and I'm holding my breath to see how ModChipCentral handles my request for a good, tested dongle. I was already a bit disappointed that their promise of orders shipping on time fell through (also the promise about shipping orders from inside the US, though I'm in Michigan, so customs and shipping time was actually quite fast once they posted the package).

I was hoping to post a review of the device in the next few days, but right now, it's not looking good, neither for a timely review, nor for a good rating for this product.

Banned again, as well.

Updated my avatar stuff, at least, and probably synched my stuff with my online avatar.

hmmm this is really odd. I bet they're trying collect info on how widespread piracy really is. Then make a better algorithm or banning routine. They're just testing payloads. They use the previously banned consoles as test subjects. Good sampling size.

Well, they already know what consoles are hacked, that's why they banned them in the first place.

If people are smart enough, they updated to LT+ firmware. It should make it very difficult for them to detect at this point, as far as detecting if a game is a backup or original being played.

On a side note, however, I saw somebody post that the beta dashboard out there has the ability to flash firmware on the optical drives? I find it hard to believe they could even READ the firmware on drives that have Firmguard, since it was designed to be inaccessible without special hardware intervention. It's possible, though that by opening up the network, they might get people to update to this new dashboard.

i was shocked to see the update software msg when i turned my banned xbox on a little while ago.  There's no way in hell i'm updating my console at the moment until I know more about it.  It was very tempting at first glance as that console has been banned for almost 2 years but it seemed too good to be true, like a trick.

The current dash is OK (I updated with whatever was on Portal 2, and I don't get a prompt to update the dash)

I can't say the same for future dashboard updates.

I don't think the game updates are working... I get an error, but testing the Live connection seems to work. Hopefully, they allow us to do everything but Gold level activities. Even better if they do something like the Bulletstorm multiplayer code thing, but allow you to play on Silver with a paid multiplayer DLC mod.

As a fellow developer, I applaud you for speaking out, and I hope the few misguided, but persistant souls who insist on carping about things do not deter you from your efforts.

Taking notice of a situation, and expressing an opnion on it it one thing.... going on the warpath for some 'assumed' wrongs percieved as being done to another party is quite another... attacking XPort is one of the lamest things I can think of... shame on you few, unthinking, reactionary zealots with nothing better to do with your time then attempt to speak for the PCS emu authors and PRESUME to know more about the situation than you do.

Thank God XPort has not done what others have done under similar misguided pressure from morons who couldn't program "Hello World" if their lives depended on it... taken his ball and gone home.

Don't let this distract you, either, XPort, move forward and keep up the great work, we all appreciate it (My Son LOVES the fact that he can play his PSX games again, since his Mom buried the system in the attic a while back).

That's my 2 cents worth...

Cool ... Just one thing; if you make a display control, make sure it is "lightweight"; i.e. draws using the container window's hDC.

Sure thing... I'll have to play around with a control and get something to you to test out.
