Xbox360's Multimedia Features / Divx On 360
« on: December 07, 2005, 08:33:00 AM »
I was gutted to here this news too. I hope the PS3 will support them to give MS a kick into making the codecs downloadable, I don't know how easy it would be to re-write the codecs for the 360 platform though, I guess MS are the only people with the know how at this point in time too.

Newbie Chat / Does Any Usb Keyboard Work On The 360
« on: February 17, 2006, 11:37:00 AM »
Anyone have any trouble with USB keyboards?

Had an old one lying around and been using that for messaging. Works a treat.

Started using it around the same time the last dash update came out and found the 360 would randomly turn on by itself, at first I assumed the update had f*cked up but removing the keyboard (i.e just plug it in when I need to and not leave it plugged in) solved the problem.

A regular powered USB Hub will provide power all the time!

I would've thought the X360 would keep the power on to the USB ports when it's off though, my PC does.

First I spent about an hour looking for the last event I needed to complete to get the lesser snow god achievement. Now I have spent 3 hours trying to get the slalom "Serpentine Fire" gold medal. Here's why it's tough:

You need to have 10 more seconds left on the clock when you enter the last gate.
Part of the problem is each gate only adds 2 seconds.
The fastest I have clock left me 9.12 seconds.
Even building the track t ohelp does little.

Does anyone have this one beatten with a gold medal? This is my last one, and it sure makes you earn the achievement. I think building rails and "bonking" them will make you quicker, but then control goes down. If you built around the track to make it achievable, please inform us on what you did.

After searching for help, I found that holdint RT and LT is the true "tuck" move. The whole time I've been holding A to tuck. Thought I should pass this on to anyone that's had trouble. No you do not need to build any tracks to bonks off of, but if you want the fastest time ever, it wouldn't hurt.

LOL I did exactly the same thing, only found out about the RT+LT tuck move after getting stuck with 1 slalom even left. The rest of the slaloms are even easier now wink.gif

Hi,

A question about the real resolution while playback 1080p WMV HD on xbox 360 connected to MCE 2005.

I understand that 1080p is not supported on XBOX 360. So 1080i is the maximum screen resolution at this moment.

When select 1080i as the screen resolution, I heard that all games using 720p as internal screen resolution and upscale to 1080i. In case of 1080p WMV HD playback, is that statement still valid, or internally, xbox 360 use a framebuffer of 1920 x 1080, and output to 1080i screen resolution?

Thanks.

You're right, 1080p isn't supported.

Generally 720p is the best resolution for games as it offers better temporal resolution than the 1080i ie. 60 frames per second.

1080i should be better for HD movies as the source is only 30 frames per second ie. using 60 frames isn't gonna be an improvement.

Xbox360's Multimedia Features / Hack For Divx Playback Half Way There
« on: January 11, 2006, 06:59:00 AM »
I think the stream is directed striaght to the 360 using the online spotlight. I think the 360 actually has divx support though (if it didn't you wouldn't be able to see preview thumbnails of the video files in the browser), it's just disabled for playback of local files.

This idea sounds like a good work around though. Keep us posted pop.gif

Xbox360's Multimedia Features / What Format/size Does 360 Rip Cd's To?
« on: December 08, 2005, 04:12:00 AM »
Caches use RAM at the expense of loading times in the core systems, how the game handles the HD is purely up to the developer though. I'm sure some games in the future will be HD only.
