Look, I'm not whining because I really don't care that much, and I do realize these types of mods have been around a long time, and that you can buy 3rd party stuff that has macros and other cheats. I'm not so cheap as to not be able to buy the fancy controller other people have either.

The point is that it isn't FUN to play games that way, and it certainly isn't fun to play against people who are cheating if you are not cheating yourself. The solution shouldn't be "then why don't you cheat too". Uh, because I dont' want to and that isn't fun as far as I'm concerned?

Now if there was a special uber-elite room on Xbox Live for people cheating, I wouldn't care, because I wouldn't go there. But as it is these cheaters are in the regular sessions owning everyone and making the games less fun for those of us who just want to play under even playing conditions... If I had a $1 for everytime I was on Live and then said to myself "how the heck did they just do that"  jester.gif

Controller mods are lame. I wish MS$ had a way to detect this stuff. Same thing with those FPS keyboard adapters... Unless everyone is on the same playing field its not even fun. It's like having a weight lifting competition against a dude who is on roids and all you are taking is protein bars.

Newbie Chat / Watch 1500 Xbox Hard Drives Fall Down Like Dominoes
« on: January 22, 2008, 09:57:00 PM »
I thought I was out of hand, I did like 500. I always gave the drives back though, no reason for me to keep them... You never know, they might need it for something should something fail or whatnot in the future.

It seemed liek more than 1500 drives to me.

They are what, 6" long? So 1500 of them is like 750 feet worth of drives. Did that seem like 750 feet? Seemed longer to me... Which would mean MORE drives. Strange.

Making matters more confusing, if you figure out the time, it was like 125 seconds. So to get through 1500 drives 12 of them have to fall per second. It looks more like 5-7 are falling a second to me. This would indicate LESS drives were used.

Me thinks these are various clips that have been assembled using the same drives over and over wink.gif

Xbox Case/Hardware modding / Metallica Xbox (metbox)

As for the whole Metallica/Napster thing, almost nobody reads all the press of Lars stating that the band doesn't care about the downloading, and that it was the principal of the matter that bothered them. I mean, for gods sake, a song they were still working on in the studio hit the radio (this happens all the time now, but back then it was historic). As a musician, I can see why they might be pist. Only the negative stuff makes the presses... As a fan, I read everything, and take it all in and decide. I don't just take a few soundbites and make a rash decision...

On top of that, I am not prepared to let a file format (mp3) or digital rights dictate which bands I like or dislike. I love music, it is my religion, so I am not prepared to part with any of it over something as silly as an artists opinion on music piracy

I am not really a painter, and I don't want to spend tons of time cutting out pieces, bondo-ing, etc. I just wanted to paint it a little and put a jewel in. That's enough for my taste. I am not into anything gaudy or over the top... As it stands, I got about 12 hours into it, and that is about the threshold when I start to lose interest in doing any more   <

It is a Metal box, so yeah, no crazy colors, etc. Just stock black with a few stencils, etc.

And yeah, I figured people would bash on the band rather than comment on the box.

I used white primer (it is for plastics) and wine red (also for plastics).

I posted the pics on here because some people have expressed interest in seeing it... I am obviously not trying to win a mod award or any accolades. It is basically a stock case with a few stencils and a jewel, no fancy dvd windows or anything... I just wanted to do something different to it, and not leave it 100% stock...

Anyway, I like it  :P <

Metallica is a registered trade mark. Those logos are copyrighted. I hope you obtained written permission. Expect a lawsuit. I have to go now, I must write out a check to Lars for viewing them.

Lol. It isn't illegal to paint a band logo on your own Xbox. Now if I were mass producing and selling them, that is a different story...

I forgot to mention, I also did a Metallica skin for UnleashX. I just uploaded it to allxboxskins, so check for it if you want it in a few days...

Well, I got my stencils done on my MetBox (you guys helped me http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=ST&f=24&t=374391' target='_blank'>HERE.) I also did a few other things...

Here is what I did:
======================

- Custom Metallica "Ninja Star" jewel - Thx to Lep
- Red LED's around jewel and behind power/eject
- Mirror behind jewel
- Metallica Logo stenciled in Maroon on Top (made own stencil)
- Scary Guy logo stenciled on top (from Binge & Burge box set)
- Amp Logo stenciled on front (made own stencil)
- Sanded smooth dvd bezel
- Clearcoat top and front (matte finish)

So, as you can see, nothing crazy, no bondo or anything dramatic like some of the crazy mods I see on here! I just wanted a second Xbox for syslink games, so I bought parts and put together the MetBox, something to do ;)

Xbox Case/Hardware modding / Stencils On Xbox Lid - Clear Coat?
« on: March 24, 2005, 03:04:00 PM »
Did a search, haven't found any other references to a MetallicA Xbox... I wonder if mine is the first?

All I am doing is a little stencil work, some clearcoat, and a custom jewel with Red LED's (not exactly a huge art undertaking), but hey, it looks cool so far biggrin.gif

I'll start a thread with pics when it is done so people can at least see it and make fun of my stenciling (it was hard!) and tell me "you should have used blue" lol  jester.gif <

I picked up some Rustoleum American Traditions Matte clearcoat from the Home Depot... It worked like a champ. Thanks for the help!!!

The Met-Box is almost done, just waiting on the jewel in the mail and the mobo biggrin.gif <

Thanks guys, I just wasn't sure if there was a special clear coat for plastics, etc. I didn't know the same stuff that worked on wood would be ok...

What kind(s)/brand(s) of clear coat should I get?

Should I clear coat just the area of the stencil, or is it going to be obvious so I need to do the whole top?

EDIT: Ooops! Thanks The Fiend  wink.gif

I stenciled the Scary Guy and MetallicA logos on the top of an extra box I had... I also have a custom Ninja Star jewel coming, so this is going to be my Met-Box wink.gif

Question: How can I protect my stencils I sprayed on top with Plastics Spray Paint? Clear coat? I just painted a few stencils, I didn't paint the whole box...

None of the tuts on the mainpage really covered stencils...

Looks cool, sounds fair for a price...

Anyone who thinks the price is high, try making that yourself for $65. It won't be as good and you will probably spend more... (Of course there are the select few on this site that could take a milk jug and make a bad ass acrylic case, but my comment is for the masses)

Put the clear front on too, then the back would only be green

I think it would "balance" it...
