Xbox Case/Hardware modding / Stupid Thing You Have Done
« on: July 21, 2005, 01:02:00 PM »
'wink.gif'.

One of my roommates was attempting to install a Xenium ice (iirc) modchip in his v1.0 xbox his cousin gave him as payment for a successful mod.  He had the soldering iron plugged into the same circuit as two lamps.  For normal houses this wouldn't be a big deal but in our townehouse it must have dropped the voltage or something similiar, because the soldering iron wouldn't heat up enough to melt the solder.  He didn't think of that, though, so he continually applied pressure against the LPC port holes, tried desoldering braid, etc, but since he wasn't applying enough heat it did not work.  He ended up fiddling for ~8 hours before giving up and in that time slipped, cracked, etc, the soldering iron against the board enough times to brick it.  Some exposed traces, still haven't put enough energy into trying to fix it..

Now he has a new xbox and bricked it before it was done because he did *something* we're not sure of while installing his LED header, he couldn't just wait and cope just with the mod, nope he needed that LED header first..

We were TSOP flashing another friend's xbox, and it was the three of us in the room: me, a xbox-smart friend who helped me with the mod (owner of the two bricks previously explained), and the owner of the xbox.  We finish flashing, everything went 100%, we reboot, and it's fragging.  Bad flash.  The owner of the xbox, who up until then at every step was like "woah.. cool!!...", etc, had a big grin on his face and was like "woah! neato! look at that flash!" while my heart was sinking.. had to buy a modchip to save that one 'smile.gif'.  Scared me because there was absolutely no feedback that the flash went wrong.. from what we could tell it was 100%

'smile.gif' ).  I want to also add a crouchswitch hardwired to L2 (or whatever left thumbstick pressed in is called). B0SSH0GG - do you know where that contact is?  I have a controller similiar to yours.

PIRS files are an authenticated container format.. like an archive, like tar.  The program takes the input PIRS file and writes out the contained files.

The blonde is cute, but I bet she's dating that guy next to her.. you know, the one who's sitting on BOTH TRUCKS at the SAME TIME and is TOO COOL TO TAKE OFF HIS SHADES.

He's probably the Devil360 mastamind if you ask me.

Xbox 360 Games General Chat (wip) / Virtual Halo2 For 360?

A roommate and I had a way to make 3D video.  We mounted 2 webcams on a plate side by side, and hooked them up to two seperate USB hosts on the same computer (many motherboards have > 1).  Then we wrote some scripts to:

- start recording both webcams as raw AVI
- rip the AVI's to raw frames
- reduce the right eye to just the red channel, left eye to just the blue channel
- combined frames
- re-encoded AVI

the result was a 3D video watchable through red/eye glasses smile.gif

We've been working on a 3D headset for a long time, and unfortunately never finished.. We're using one of those crappy 3D LCD games as the headset (one of the ones that is like "3D snowboarding! realistic!!" but in actuality is just a crappy little LCD screen like those old handheld games), and screens from those madcatz screen/controller combo's that people were modding their xboxes with (we picked up 6 at EB a long time ago for $25/peice).  Someday we'll finish it, and modify two xboxes to run some homebrew quake over a network or something like that.

Software Exploits Development / Research / System Link Overflows?
« on: December 19, 2005, 02:08:00 PM »
I've been working on this for a month or two actually, hopefully I get something working at some point.  Unlike the majority here I'm actually coding something smile.gif.  System link traffic uses a lot of security to ensure that packets are not modifed en route so it's annoying to work with.

The goal isn't to see files.  We already have a HD dump and can see DVD's, and most of PIRS and XEX files are mapped.  Even crashing the emulator would be a large step forward, to be able to interact with the hypervisor and start poking at it.  People saying "buffer overflows won't work", well.. you don't know that until you try.  Just because stack space is non-executeable doesn't mean we're screwed.

Could these emulator files be encrypted PPF-type patches which patches the x86 xbe in memory?

I'm betting you the line drawn between the xbox1 "virtual machine" and the xbox360 is very spotty at best.  It's not a proper emulator.

- you need a different "emulator" for every game - I'm guessing this is so that critical sections are recoded to exploit the xbox360's speed (and possibly, use the full RAM, etc..)  If this is the case then there is probably an easy way to jump between native and emulation mode inside the emulator.

Here is some information on KERMIT

Right here

I hearby vote that any use of the word "KERMIT" in the xbox360 forums be automatically changed to "*** User is idiot *** ***Report User for Banning***"

You probably don't want to unfirewall your xbox, since most people (at least I know) never bothered to change their ftp u/p from "xbox/xbox".  Might be better off properly configuring your firewall to allow xbc traffic, I believe it's as simple as opening tcp/udp for a specific port or two.

Other Online Gaming Options (Gamespy, etc.) / 2 Xbox's On Xbc
« on: July 21, 2005, 10:09:00 AM »
smile.gif ?  If it doesn't start troubleshooting

- can the two xboxes play systemlink against each other?
- can either xbox play on xbc itself (you will have to "rescan" for xboxes to make sure it finds both)?

solve those two issues and you should be fine.  It's a lot of fun with two xboxes; on halo 2 we never have to go to quarter screen, only ever just halfs.

actually we do it all the time with 2 xboxes and one copy of xbconnect.

we've found xbconnect to be rather finicky with xbox detection but we do it all the time stablely now that it's set up.  I think just get it set up with one xbox, then the other, then try with both online and it should work as long as they're all on the same network segment

I thought it was pretty good.  The little clay figures were more lifelike than I expected.
