this topic has been touched upon a few months ago and pretty much ended in religion being a tool of opression

i pity anyone who is weak minded enough to belive in such bull

EDIT: i pity even more those who were raised into a religion, as they never really had a chance to think about other options since they are pretty much pounded into their heads that their religion is right and everyone else are sinning bafoons

What I said was simply to say that you seem to think you can generalize everyone coming to the conclusion that it is a tool of oppresion. Feel free to state that you think that of religion. Do not, however generalize everyone to believe in that statement. And don't try to point links to me as this discussion has come up long before you even knew of this place.....So neener neener neener.

Anyone watch Stargate sg1 hehe it could be true in a way.

Look at the bible it has changed so much that it has lost all meaning now. I am not saying the events that took place back then didnt happen but that maybe it was not as the bible states it. What i meen is that the bible prolly exaggerated it alot.

Anyone ever heard of the BIG BANG THEORY. There is considerable evidence that this could have happened. and this is what I think might have happened but i have other ideas too. I am not saying you have to beleive this too just stating my opinions thats all. biggrin.gif

I'm an athiest.  Not to be "cool" or "rebelious" or because "the bible is so fake, science has proven it wrong, what bs!" like others who are the same but just simply because I believe there are ideas to follow instead of people to worship.  I grew up roman catholic and spent 5 years of my life in catholic school but I always found myself asking questions about our lord that no one could answer.  I slowly stopped believing, then stopped going to church, and finally stopped praying.  I know all about my religion and I still follow their basic values of love one another and so on.  These are the things we should live our lives on.  (don't flame me for the following statement on "false hope", it's just my opinion) Some people can live their lives of going to a building to worship a being they've never seen just to have some false hope in their lives.  I see this more as a cult.  I've always considered myself a nonconformist, I follow what needs to be followed.  So in the end, I believe and live by most of the commandments and everyone should, going to church and everything else, well thats their choice... I have nothing against them, I just have my own feelings on the topic.

[edit] to reply to some of the above posters, if you are an athiest because the bible is not accurate of anything, then you followed that religion for all the wrong reasons in the first place and it would do you good to read the bible, think of it as a good fictional book like lord of the rings but with a hell of aalot more meaning... and less reading.

Dude don't call it BS that is just not right. Why do you have to judge other ppl when you don't know the facts yeah you think i am doing this to be "cool" or "rebelious" or "the bible is so fake, science has proven it wrong" NO not true. Yeah same here dude but you would'nt know that cause you don't know me and what i "beleive in" When you pass judgement over me you are telling me that what i "beleive in" is wrong and should not think that way "What BS".
QUOTE

I totally agree with that. Please ppl dont pass judgement on otheres here. It is wrong no matter what "religion" you are or what you "believe in". Passing judgement is another way of saying hey your wrong so i am saying something about it so everybody knows it. Ihave been judged my whole lkife for what i "beleive in" and been made fun of and been cursed at cause i think the way i do. Now BLANK comes here and says its all "BS" well BLANK i can say the same thing about your opinions.

Deut5:7..'You shall have no other gods before Me.
8 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image - any likeness that in heaven above, or that in the earth beneath, or that in the water under the earth;
9 'You shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your GOD, a jealous GOD, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth (generations) of those who hate Me,
10 'But showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.'

Jn14:15.."If you love me, keep my command-
ments."

2Thes1:8..In flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know GOD, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our LORD Jesus Christ.
9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the LORD and from the glory of His power.

GOD Almighty, the Supreme Being, spoke to us thru Moses, saying "obey My voice" Ex19:5,
but from then till now very few even want to acknowledge Him, seeking other gods.

GOD, in Ex20, forbade us from having any gods before Him, and expressly says
make no images, but millions of believers worship idols + images and pray to the dead.

GOD, in Deut5, repeated His basic laws, and promised a blessing or curse in Deut11; then in
Mat19 Jesus clearly says obey for life, all repeated thru His word till obey to enter Rev22:14.

GOD, thru history, sends many messengers or prophets to exhort, judge, rebuke
believers, as He lovingly grows a few into His own true priests and holy nation 1Pet2.

GOD in Jn3:16 offers life to "whosoever believing" but very few have full,
active belief in His word, so most deny Him.

GOD in Gen to Rev says obey for blessing, life, love as Jn15:10 sets conditions
for His love, even as Christ obeyed to abide in the Father's love.

GOD clearly sets conditions to abide in Him, be "as Him" 1Jn2:6,
all others face His wrath Jn15:6 1Cor3:12-15(5:5) Mat10:28.

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept the Father's commandments and abide in His love.

Jn15:10

woah man, you read my post all wrong.  if you notice I had the BS in qoutations with the part before it.  In other words I was making a fake qoute from people who do not believe in god because the bible has some elements that are hard to believe and contridicting.  The "what bs" was part of that fake woute.. meaning the fake person I qouted was saying that the bible was bs.  I don't think anybody's opinion is bs nor the bible.

Here is my 2 cents on the subject.....

I myself come from a Jewish background but I don't fallow the religion like my family does. I don't really believe in all of it. I show my respect though by doing want is told to do from the torah not that I believe in it at all but I show respect by doing it. I think religions don't matter in this world. I think religion was brought up to keep everyone from corrupting the world. They should always have a feeling where if you were to do something bad that god is watching over you. If people had nothing to keep them in line just once you live life there's no where for you to go then people wouldn't care what would happen because they know nothing would. More crime would happen a lot of different things would go on. Also religion is something where people can come and talk to the only one about the problems and let it of there chest. Its a place of forgiveness and apologies.  IF you think about it by all the information we have gathered over the years death and god have so little to do with each other. If you were to die you wouldn't even know it. It's like blacking out your dead, gone. There is no god to meet , your gone. Its pretty sad because you wish there was something for you waiting in the afterlife but what comes down to facts of what we have today there is no god the big bang happened as a effect. Like bacteria we look like we came from different animals. Have you ever paid attention to your body details in a way somehow were related to animals on our planet.  Yes we are the smartest of our kind but were just like them. Were more civilized though. As far as other planets that might have people I'm sure there is far far away from us there must be other planets with living cell's. Not aliens but other people like us there form might be different but there exactly like us. They could be smarter or they could be dumb. I am sure if we ever figure out light travel there is so much more to see. We cant be the only earth here that's living out of a infinite space. If there was "aliens" that come visit us they don't want to harm us. If you think about it if there that smart to travel to out world then there problem smart enough to know that Violence is a horrible thing. Maybe they don't show themselves because are planet isn't to good enough for them because of the things that happen or maybe because they never even came down here. I know this post got a bit of hand just expressing my feelings though Religion is something that is put together to keep us together and have someone we can talk to. If there is a god he doesn't care where you come from and who you believe in all he cares about is you. He wouldn't put a different aside he loves everyone.

Actually there is so much evidence of the Big Bang that it's no longer really a matter of IF it occured or not, but rather how and why.  You could argue that the Big Bang was an act of God and so on, but anyone who doesn't believe it occured at all is probably a fundamentalist.

Agnostic, though leaning more to the Athesist side. The only reason I consider myself Agnostic not Athesist is that I can't disprove that God exists and until I can do so I will remain in the middle.

Agnosticism seems pretty popular nowadays. Makes sense, really. There are enough mysteries about the universe, and you can't really prove or disprove faith unless you can answer every unanswered question. To say I'm an outright atheist is not only stupidly arrogant, but as bad as any unquestioning religious zealot.
I think that most organized religions, if any were ever true, are polluted to the point where you can't trust them. But that's just my opinion. Live and let live, I say.

Colonel32 this is kind of funny because it seems to me u saw sci-fi channel yesterday because this was exactly one of the things brought up and it used exactly what you said. What they were saying though was : Every person is born with goal in life. They don't even know it until they get there. If a brand new baby this hour was born it already has its future set to the goal. If something was to happen before you got to your goal you would re crenate into another baby and start your life all over again same goal. The same things in life are going to happen to you again but in a different way for example say you didn't get to your goal in 1970 because you died. You now live in the future same problems you have will occur but you have a choice weather to stop it or not. Its just a matter of taking the right steps to stop. Other then that we live life over and over and we don't even know it. You could be awake today and dead tomorrow no one knows how human life works.

QUOTE (Colonel32 @ Mar 16 2004, 01:12 AM)
This going to sound crazy, but here's my "religious" thoughts....

I think our lives are trial runs....

K, don't laugh.... I think our "lives" are a trial run

if we screw it up enough we are sent back to try it again through re-incarnation(people can recall several lives under hypnotism).

But if we are sent back to try again we are not the same person the second time around. The "person we were" is lost forever to our families and friends on the other side, this is the punishment or "hell". You wife/parent/identity is lost forever

When you are reincarnated you are someone different, with a different family etc... yet the same "person" to some degree. When you manage do all the right things over the course of your live then you "cross over" to join your family and friends who have made it to the other side.

I think the other side is whatever you make it, if you follow orthodox religious views then you will be with god, if you don't then you will be in the afterlive... I think heaven is what you make of it but it is a place to reunite with your lost loved ones and this is the ultimate reward...

Sounds crazy but if you listen to all the people in the world who "talk to the dead" they seem to support my theory

:LET THE LAUGHTER INSUE  tongue.gif

I don't really know much about it, but I think that's somewhat similar to Hindu beliefs.  So, are you Hindu?

LMAO, I don't know really.... a better question would be where did the first batch start... I guess I could say that for everyone person that goes to heaven two new lives are created.... hahaha... would that answer the question, seriously all of this is a question none of us have an answer to and never will I suppose.

QUOTE

I didn't see it, but this is actually a somewhat popular belief. Of course there is devations of each theory but the thesis is basically the same about explaining reincarnations. I actually first learned of this from a pastor that lived next door to me several years ago when I was asking him why there were such devations and revisions throughout the years of westernized religion.

My whole deal with orthodox religion is they are all so different, so which one is right... The Quran(or Koran) says Jesus was a prophet and scoffs at the thought Jesus was Gods son... Judaism follows the old testament... there are seven books that are in the catholic bible but not in the protestant bible... law vs grace.... I just think if you look at ALL the scripture as a whole it's completely hermeneutic so you must take your own conclusions from each work and choose to apply it to your life

If anyone has studied theology I would compare it to convenant and dispensationalism beliefs

When 2 people love each other very much...or are pretty drunk (either works) .....

just kidding, somebody needs to have the birds and bee's talk with thier parents.

There are over 390,00 Jedi's within the UK (out of a population of over 58 Million)

Atheist here.

Another thing i would like to mention that i was in no way aware of and i find it quite sad.

I have plenty of methodist/catholic/etc. friends and i have often gone to church with them, but while i was at their church(es), i could see that half(if not more) could not give a flying fuck what the preacher/minister/etc. had to say. (even adults) cut up, talked the whole time, and made jokes in the middle of a sermon. I was polite enough to dress up and be quiet and actually listen the whole time. What i got out of the sermon was, ways to better live your and those around you lives. The sheer absurdity of some of these grown people almost enraged me because those same people, always talk of their great belief and how they trust the holy savior, but do not even have the common courtesy to shut up and listen for 3 hours.

Flame away.

I think of god as a piece of shit hanging off my ass.

By the way, whoever said scientology is a religion in a previous post is an idiot. They don't believe in a god, only John Travolta. If you watch that shitty Battlefield Earth movie, thats actually what they believe will happen.

Im an athiest.

I am Christian, and I believe that there is no other scape conclusion to atheists than nihilism, and some nihilistic person who lives in this world without constant desperation is alienated, wich leads me to two conclusions:

- One who says is atheist actually believes in a God but not the gods of religions
- One who says is atheist and really believe there is no God and lives normally is in a deep state os alienation cos nihilism leads to desperation.

But that's my opinion, for I believe that the reality of what you believe is how deep you live according to what you believe. That's why I think that every atheist, nihilistic person that lives normally actually is alienated.

I used to be Athiest,

but recently i am moving towards becoming a Pagan as I actualy feel that there is a higher power, spirit or deity at work.

I have always been wary of any groups that tell you how to live, I was lucky in the fact that my parents did not enforce religion on to me.

I agree with Helios regarding his views on religious wars, his views on satanism i will have to take a look into, my brother in law has just purchased "the Satanic Bible" I plan on taking a look at it with an open mind, if only to be able to offer/give some advice to him.

I always thought religion was used as a crutch to handle the pain of the real world. Like drugs, alcohol and video games. =D

I don't see how people can believe in something they don't know anything about. Nobody knows that a god exists. Believing in a god makes you a weak idiot. Its the same thing with people who claim they can see into the future or read peoples minds, they want to feel special so bad they are willing to lie to the world and themselves.

Nobody wants to believe that when you die you are gone, forever. Thats the bottom line.

Wake up kids. When you die, thats it. End of story. No heaven with roads paved of gold, no virgins everywhere, no coming back as an ant, no coming back as a human.

Here is a site for you Bible lovers.

The chance that we exist is almost a singularity? Laff

People simply believe in it(God) to A )follow others B ) dont want to feel alone in the universe or that their lives dont matter or C ) think of church as a social event

QUOTE
I picked Christianity because it makes the most sense, and i believe in it

So, you picked because it makes the "most" sense, or beacuase you believe in it? Now im confused, you all say we believe in the same god, so how can one religion can better than another?

And btw, lemme see your calculations about the whole singularity of our existence.

Heres some evidence,

Yup if there was some proof that Heaven contained virgins everywhere I'd probably look into religion more closely.  Unfortunately there's no reason for logically minded people do to so since there is not a shred of evidence of God existing or creating anything.

One of the largest criticisms of religion I have is that conflicting religions do not get along.  In particular, Christianity is the most guilty of this.  It's the Jesus way, or the highway.  If you don't follow Jesus you are immoral and evil tool of the Devil who will burn in eternal hellfire for his sins against the Lord and all that BS.  It really amazes me that in this day in age there's so many people that hang onto beliefs that have no bearing on reality.

DO NOT think of people who think otherwise as any less of people

But Christianity is inherently a proselytizing religion.  Christians might not come straight out with fire and brimstone warnings simply because they find it doesn't work anymore.  Instead the general trend is to use words like "saved" - people who do not worship Jesus haven't been saved, and it is a good Christian's duty to save them by converting them to Christianity.  That's just a clever spin on saying you're going to hell unless you believe what I believe.

There are plenty of books and intelligent arguements that show that science actually PROVES the existence of a god

Trust me, I've heard a lot of intelligent design and young-earth arguments before, and I can safely say that the entire "science" of creation is the laughing stock of the scientific community.  There are entire communities of fundamentalists that set up websites like answersingenesis in order to fool people into their twisted way of thinking.  Yet not a single theory set forth by them is considered scientific by anyone except themselves.

Latter-day Saints (Mormon); Christian

Not all of the stories in the bible are meant to be taken literally; specifically pertaining to the Old Testament.  A lot of the stories are analogies, and the meaning it presents is what's important.  I mean, do you seriously think the earth is only about 6 thousand years old??  According to the bible, one would think this is what is says (4 thousand years before Christ when Adam and Eve were present on earth, and another 2 thousand since).  But, each creation period was not given any specific time; each one could have taken millions, if not billions of years, according to our time scale.  So, to say the bible is false, when scientifically scrutinized, doesn't hold water.  The earth more than likely is like what science predicts ~ 5 billion yrs old.

Oh please, there won't be peace until the palestinians disarm.  If Israel doesn't remain vigilant, they will be pushed into the sea.  The only reason the palestinian cause is so popular among arabs is because the other arab states don't want them in their countries.  They aren't pariahs, they're just pawns, and they're too blinded to realize it.  Arab leaders don't care about the will of allah, they care about money, and refugees are bad for business.

There's always 2 sides to coin, I guess yours is one sided.

Israel was given to the jews by the UN after world war 2, they've defended it against numerous arab invasions, the land is their's legally, and it was never stolen.

Israelis want to coexist in peace, the palestinians just want war and hatred.

Ehh compare the number of Palestinians killed each day to the number of Isreali's killed each year. War will never stop unless Isreali's or Palestinians get out of Jerusalem. Or if America actually steps in and takes Sharon and Arafat out of leadership then yes there *might* be a chance for peace. I have nothing against the jews or isreali's. It's the Isreali Militants that I have a problem with. They do kill Palestinian militants and I am sure you will be able to find thousands of videos of that. And the Palestinians do kill Isreali Civilians. It isnt really a war as the only way to win a war or for war to end if the other side is equally equipped, the main reason this war has gone on this long. One day there wont be anymore Palestinians or Isreali's in Jerusalem and there ignorance will just have both sides blown up. I am not for the "war", I want it to end, I hope for it to end, I wish for it to end.  Please watch what you say because really you have no idea what you are talking about. Find a new country? Also, faith is different for everyone, but this description works well I think:
faith: a rational attitude towards a potential object of knowledge which arises when we are subjectively certain it is true even though we are unable to gain theoretical or objective certainty. By contrast, knowledge implies objective and subjective certainty, while opinion is the state of having neither objective nor subjective certainty. By distinguishing between what we can know empirically and what is transcendent, then those things that are presented as such, can be approached only by means of faith.

Explain this:

"Believers, take neither Jews nor Christians for your friends." (Surah 5:51)

"Make war on them until idolatry shall cease and God's religion shall reign supreme." (Surah 8:36-)

"Fight against such as those to whom the Scriptures were given [Jews and Christians]...until they pay tribute out of hand and are utterly subdued." (Surah 9:27-)

Islam is a religion of hate, the terrorists are correct in their interpretation.  Evil, hatred, and murder are the true beliefs of islam.

Islam is a religion of hate, the terrorists are correct in their interpretation.  Evil, hatred, and murder are the true beliefs of islam.

And thusly you've demonstrated how easy it is to take a passage or two out of context, and twist it to your own ends. It's easy to do that with any major religious work, including the Bible.

I was raised Lutheran, but by the age of 16 or so, I found myself with unanswered questions about the religion in which I was raised. I took my concerns to my parents first, then our pastor, and later to anyone I met who seemed to have a good grasp of the religion. Ultimately, these questions were never answered; and I found myself without a religion. I spent the next eight years or so "visiting" various religions, trying to find one that was the right fit for me. During that time I spent time talking with as many learned members of the religions I was investigating as I could, I attended services, etc. I bought every major religious work I could, and read them all. I've spent some time with Catholics, various Protestant Churches, Christian Scientists, Muslims, Hari Krishnas, Bhuddists, Taoists, Jews, the list goes on.

What I discovered (aside from the fact that I, as a thinking man, was not comfortable with any of these religions) was this: EVERY religion, in some way or another, preaches some form of intollerance for other religions and/or peoples. Even your Bible is not free of this (read the old testament for some dandy examples. I don't have a copy handy on my desk at work here, but I know that there are several verses that advocate killing and violence; and, if memory serves, even genocide.)

It boils down to this though; every religious work is essentially a philisophical one, it's always open to debate, and you can easily read whatever you'd like into any work; it has as much to do with the readers' pre-conceptions as it does with the work itself. The Quaran preaches hate no more than the Bible does, it's all in the interpretation my friend.

And that is where the extremists, from every religion, come in. They twist the interpretation to their own ends, and smear the name of the religion in the process. Don't think that christians don't have thier own share of extremists, stretching back nearly as far as the religion itself. Look at the templars and the crusades, or more recently the violence against gays and abortion clinics and doctors (I could list more examples, but these two stand out most clearly here in the US), I don't think you'll find many muslims behind these acts; and lets face it, there is ZERO justification for taking the life of another human being.

That being said, as we should all realize by now, no religion is right or wrong; they're all philosophies about the begining, and the afterlife. Since no one here (or anywhere on earth) has actually been there for either of these things (yet, we'll all find out about the afterlife eventually) no one can say "This religion is right, and all others are wrong." All you can say in honesty is "This religion is right for me." Keep that in mind, and allow others thier beliefs, you might be suprised how great life can be (and how varied your group of friends can become!) if you try practicing tollerance for once.

On another note, I find it amusing (and somewhat sad) that you're taking such a hostile tone. Is this how Christ wants you to behave? Insulting people in his name, slandering thier beliefs? I'm sure it isn't. You talk about Islam preaching hate, but I encourage you to go back and read your own posts on xbox-scene; I think you'll find that more than half of them are nothing more than insults, or hate-filled diatribes. I feel sorry for you, and hope you can see the error in your own words.

Nemt, I hope you one day learn to take your own religion to heart! Turn the other cheek, and behave in a christ-like fashion (which is, after all, what it means to be Christian) you'll be happier for it, and a positive example of your religion, rather than the hateful example you are now.

I have no religion, I don't have a need for it, but I respect those who do.  I don't have respect for islam because it's a faith based solely on forced propagation, xenopgobia, hatred, and war, and anyone who says that isn't the "context" of the koran is incorrect.

You also don't understand what christ meant by "turn the other cheek."  It's a common mistake though, as very few people know the meaning of the phrase.  In the judean culture, the left hand was not used for work, or for that much, slapping.  When one would slap someone else in the face, it would be against the knuckles, to show contempt, or disrespect.  By turning one's cheek, you force the other to strike you with an open hand, forcing him to either accept you at the same level as himself, or discontinue his attacks.

It has nothing to do with forgiveness.

You don't know what you're talking about, you're like a ten year old in CCD class learning about catholicism.

Islam IS based on hatred, the main tenet of islam was to give the people of the world three options, death, conversion, or religious taxation.  This was practiced for hundreds of years.  Islam may be from the word salaam for peace, but it is not a religion of peace, it is a religion of xenophobia, ostracism, hatred, and war.

You want to clue the rest of us in on how the they proved Adam and Eve were not real?
Oh, and buy the way, you misspelled “mispelled”

I too am a Catholic and I'm proud to be because one is given the whole truth about god

our souls will live forever and ever and nobody can take away that from us....whether we live eternally in Heaven or hell.

God is also waiting for us in HEAVEN

As you said, you a Catholic. How can you state that you have been given the whole touch about God? This is coming from some one who believes God, his Son the “master worker” (Jesus Christ), and the holy spirit are all one in the same… Let me ask you, where in the bible dose it say that?

Our souls do not live for ever, we are souls. Gen 2:7 says: “And Jehovah God proceeded to form the man out of dust from the ground and to blow into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became to be a living soul” It dose not say he has a soul, it says he IS a soul. When we are dead, we are dead until we are resurrected. Ecclesiastes 9:5 says it best: For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all"

And God is not waiting for us in Heaven. Well not most of us any way. A limited number of men and women will be resurrected to life in Heaven. As kings and priests with Jesus, they will share in undoing all the effects of death that mankind inherited from the first man, Adam. Only 144,000 will go to Heaven as stated in the book of Revelation. Rev 14:1 says “And I saw, and, look! The Lamb standing upon the Mount Zion and with him the hundred and forty-four thousand having his name and the name of his Father written on their foreheads.” Also backed up by, Rev 7:1

Rev 14:1 - This would be Jesus standing in Heaven with the selected 144,000 to co-rule paradise.  Most of the people will be resurrected to a paradise earth. (Psalm 37:11, 29; Matt: 6:10)

And whats up with “our souls will live forever and ever and nobody can take away that from us....whether we live eternally in Heaven or hell.”
How can you say that? For one, where in the Bible dose it say “hell” is even real? Give ya a glue, it doesn’t. This is one of man’s teaching. Mostly brought about by the Catholics. Same gos for Purgatory. The Bible makes no referee to it, and is you really research it, it’s a pagan belief that sins can be “burned away with fire”

Next your going to tell me Jesus was born on Dec 25th too?

Theres a lot of other things I really want to comment on, but thats for a later post.

The King James, Douay, and other versions, mention unicorns. But that is not so with modern versions that accurately render the Hebrew.—Psalm 22:21; 29:6; 92:10 (21:22; 28:6; 91:11, Douay).

QUOTE

QUOTE
Pope Urban VIII and the theologians of the Roman Inquisition did in fact condemn the Copernican theory, claiming that it was contrary to the Bible. Galileo’s adversaries referred to Joshua’s statement, “Sun, stand thou still,” which, according to their reading, was to be understood literally. (Joshua 10:12, King James Version) But does the Bible really contradict the Copernican theory? Not at all.

The contradiction lay between science and an obviously incorrect interpretation of Scripture. That was how Galileo saw the matter. He wrote to a pupil: “Even though Scripture cannot err, its interpreters and expositors can, in various ways. One of these, very serious and very frequent, would be when they always want to stop at the purely literal sense.” Any serious student of the Bible would have to agree.

An honest reader will readily admit that a statement about the sun standing still in the sky is not meant as a scientific analysis but as a simple observation about how things appeared from the standpoint of human eyewitnesses. Astronomers, too, often speak of the rising and setting of the sun, moon, planets, and stars. They do not mean that these heavenly bodies literally revolve around the earth but, rather, that they appear to move across our sky.

Didn't even satan take control of a snake?  Plus there has been accounts in the bible and in mondern times of deamons posseing people. Even man has been able to remote control mice, to make them go were they want. I think the one that could create the whole universe could make a donkey speak.

That is kinda sad you have that attitude. Heres a guy who is trying to teach you some thing and as soon as you see he says hes a Whiteness you ‘slam the door’ in his face.

I come across people like you every day and you know, it doesn’t really bother me as I’m sure it doesn’t really bother Mitch that much either. Simply just turn around and go to the next door and hope maybe some one has enough brains to listen and think “Well hey, they mite be right.”

If you actually lessened to what a Witness has to say you mite learn some thing. That some thing mite just change your life. I think you just hate the Witnesses b/c every one else “hates” us. I also think people don’t like us b/c we tell you the truth, no sugar coated crap the rest of the churches teach.

For the most part the rest of the churches don’t even teach from the bible, and when they do its twisted and wrong. Mostly mans teachings other than God’s teachings. Take the Mormons for example. They teach from “The Book of Mormon” You have to stop and ask your self, is this really the truth? A book some crack pot found under a rock? Come one man.

I thought it was rather interesting Mitch recognized me as a Witness. Even if he didn’t he recognized the fact I was telling you the truth. And hes right, we are not insane. We are only doing what God has commanded us to do.

I really encourage you to at least listen to the next Witness that comes to your door. Don’t just slam the door in their face. At least see what they have to say and maybe take a magazine, there maybe an interesting article in there that mite just help you.

that reminds of an interesting story I heard the other day, a guy told me he had a JW come to the door and so he told the JW he was trespassing, and to please leave or he'd get out the beseball bat.  The JW says, "But up to the front door is public property" and this guy says, "you have about 6 seconds to test that theory!"  laugh.gif

LOL thats all most as bad as knocking on a door and some HUGE guy opens it holding a gun. Seen that too. Than theres always the BIG dog with lots of teeth too.

People reject the Witnesses b/c they don't want to hear the truth. I had a guy tell me once he liked his church and wouldn't leave it. When I asked him why, it replied "We are in an A/C cooled room, theater seats and the speaker tells me what I want to hear."

there are too many freaky religous nuts in this forum.

You can change any topic into religion.

Gay marriage -  The Lord says it wrong
Abortion         -  The Devils work
The War         -  Someone always says they were only muslims or something similar

The only thing funny about the whole situation is watching you argue between yourselves!

You all just preach and quote your holy book.

WHATS THE POINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You belive one thing, I belive another.

And proof cannot come from the pages of your Holy Book.
It may be important to you, but if someone else doesnt belive in your God why on earth are they going to belive in your book?
You just cant do it!

I think you all need to ignore your no sex before marriage pledge and try and get sex, preferably with a girl.
But thats probably why you took that vow, you couldnt get a girl.

Its scary so many of you exist.

I dont really understand what religion specifically you are as christian covers a broad range.

I just think waiting for marriage is hilarious. The silver ring shite club came over to this country a couple of months ago and they were ridiculed everywhere they went. The idea of waiting is outdated. The 2 big virgins in America (looking from other here), were Britney and Jessica Simpson.

Britney fucks every which way and JS said she was stupid for waiting.

This is not a generalisation but i dont think you are capable of going out and actually pulling a girl. As soon as you mention Jesus you have fucked yourself! Im sorry but its not normal.

On your wedding night do you think you will satisfy your wife?
You wont know your arse from your elbow.

Wrongo there, bud. I haven't made a single comment about atheists on this entire thread. I don't pretend to know what they think. I have an idea, but I think arguing about it is retarded when I know what I know and I don't need to argue about atheism (which is largely a mass of ideas anyway).

Wow. That's really cool. More generalizations and more falsifications of what waiting means. Does waiting means that I can't get a girlfriend? No.

THe part about mentioning Jesus being a bad thing, that's wrong man. Christ is my best friend, and as such, any girl that I'm interested in has to have him as her best friend, too. It's as simple as that. I'm not out there "pulling" or anything like that. I'm comfortable with who I am and I'm comfortable with waiting on the right girl and not some girl that gets my whistles blowing for a month.

Besides, the spread of STDs today is out of control. I'd rather not get one of those. My mom runs a pregnancy center and what those things do is just disgusting (and they are uncurable for life).

No, I'd much rather wait. I'd much rather wait for my wedding night actually meaning something and not being the three hundredth time that I've had sex with the girl. I won't be in any rush on my wedding night. I can just enjoy myself.

It's as simple as that. To me it makes more sense.

Wow, it seems you and I agree on some thing.

jesusphreak is right. I'm not telling any one what to do, but sex should wait until you are married.

Even in Bible times, some engaged in premarital sex. An immoral woman might invite a young man to indulge, saying: “Do come, let us drink our fill of love until the morning; do let us enjoy each other with love expressions.” (Proverbs 7:18) The Bible, however, warned that pleasures enjoyed today can cause pain tomorrow. “For as a honeycomb the lips of a strange woman keep dripping, and her palate is smoother than oil,” observed Solomon. “But,” he continued, “the aftereffect from her is as bitter as wormwood; it is as sharp as a two-edged sword.”—Proverbs 5:3, 4.

One possible aftereffect is the contracting of a sexually transmitted disease. Imagine the heartache if years later one learned that a sexual experience has caused irreversible damage, perhaps infertility or a serious health problem. As Proverbs 5:11 warns: “You have to groan in your future when your flesh and your organism come to an end.” Premarital sex also leads to illegitimacy, abortion, and premature marriage, each with its painful consequences. Yes, one engaging in premarital sex truly ‘sins against his or her own body.’—1 Corinthians 6:18.

You two will grow old but your incredible belief into a BOOK?? means you wont have enjoyed your life. You will have led a boring exsistence and all you will have at the end is that book. I know you feel that is all you need and will be happy with that.

But what if your wrong?
You belive what you do because of what is in the bible.
Millions upon millions of people, including myself,
got brought up with religion either through parents or there school,

What if you are wrong and we got it the right?

Then you would have wasted your life,
You will look back and think of all those missed opurtunities.

melon I can see its no use to argue with you on this subject. You want to live an immoral life, go right ahead.

You are correct though, sex is fun. Sex has a very deep and personal connection with the person you whole hearty love. This kind of connection can not be found with some woman you pick up for a one night stand, or a woman who you have been together with for a short time.

As a person who tries to uphold God’s word the best I can, I have fallen. Sure it was fun for a short time, but I didn’t like who I was, and the fun didn’t last very long. Living with in the Bible’s teachings has brought a lot of joy into my life as it has my family’s life.
Sharing God’s word with others and knowing I can bring joy to Jehovah's heat, makes my heat rejoice.

And for my personally I can there is with out a doubt a God. Just look out side, there no just no way all of this could have been an accident. Things in the world are just to complex to have come from an accident. There is no way humans evolved from monkeys.

Thats like saying a lion evolved from a house cat. Sure, they are both cats, but they are still very different. Humans and monkeys are both homosapiens (<--- spell that right?) , but again just like the cat ant the lion they are very diffident.

Any way, my personal opinion is sex should said until marriage. From what I have seen and experienced in the world, its not worth wasting time on random women. When you finally fine the won woman you want to send your entire life with, you will see what I mean.

I agree completley with rms2001. I've had sex, and I'm not married. Sure it was fun when I had it, you have no arguement on that with me. If I say I didn't like it, I would be lying.

That being said, I wish I waited. It wasn't worth it. I have to live with that the rest of my life. Thankfully, I didn't contract any disease from that wrongdoing. I thank God every day of my life for that.

"premarital sex is a sin" is something I have a hard time dealing with.  The reason being , people go around saying that based upon the Bible.  Except, it doesn't say it is a sin or even wrong in the Bible.
There is a passage that warns against "fornication" which was meant to mean sex with animals, or multiple partners.  So please don't go saying having sex with one single person is wrong when you intend to marry them.  It's a lot different than a one night stand.
I feel that in order to really be sure you can stay with one girl /guy for the rest of your life, and marriage is the goal, why not?  You do not feel bad afterwards, in fact you , become closer.  If God himself gave us these intense urges, and we did not respond, we would be denying ourselves one of the greatest joys of living.  This does not mean sleeping around... that would be wrong as your intentions are not sincere.
If anyone can actually find somewhere in the bible where it says having sex with one partner is wrong please point it out.

Then how do you explain the fact that we're all destined to a hellish afterlife, unless we accept Christ as our savior?  Sounds like there were alot of strings attached to Christ's efforts.  Unconditional love, eh?

I'm Christian, btw, but not in such a wacky fanatical way, hence the points I'm providing here.  I see Christianity as a source of a value system and a strong moral foundation.  It is not a religion based on the ultimate truth.  I assure you, it isn't, as any religion is created by man.

People who do not know God will get a chance to know him after Armageddon comes. After Satan and his demons are locked up for 1,000 years the people will be thought the truth about God and his Son. Ones who have died will be resurrected.

Ones who take the truth to heart and prove it will have the chance to live on Earth in paradise for ever.

What happens to all of the the million upon millions of people who never get the chance to hear about Christ, and who die without having a chance to accept His message?  Or, all the millions of people who lived and died before Christ's mortal ministry?  Are all of these people, includeding God's prophets like Abraham, Moses, Isiah, etc. damned?  Since God is a just and loving god, what will happen to them considering they never were "saved" here in mortality?

Passing judgement is another way of saying hey your wrong so i am saying something about it so everybody knows it. Ihave been judged my whole lkife for what i "beleive in" and been made fun of and been cursed at cause i think the way i do. Now BLANK comes here and says its all "BS" well BLANK i can say the same thing about your opinions.

Deut5:7..'You shall have no other gods before Me.
8 'You shall not make for yourself a carved image - any likeness that in heaven above, or that in the earth beneath, or that in the water under the earth;

Jn15:10

found 13 refs to hell.

Mr. Chips, you will find the word hell in bible translations such as the King James and The American Standard. But these bibles translations have translated the word wrongly.

Wow, I hit the Atheist button thinking I was going to be 1 out of 5 or 6.  I guess that there are a lot of people out there that have the same feelings as me.  I personally dont believe in a higher power, but I am a true believer in ones opinion.  I am glad that there are this many people on the scene that are willing to express their opinion about their religion freely.

I don't understand why there is all this tension between the religious and those who care to express themselves differently.
Many of you call religion bad, but look at this page of posts (I don't care to search thru all 9 pages) and notice that all the non-religious folk attack the religious, yet the religious try and respond in a civilized manner. I’ve noticed this often in these forums, the “Bible freaks” will reply with a quote from the Bible, and others will just reply with some obscene respond, much like the ones above. I find it pretty hypocritical...
After seeing the responds in this topic, I can't compare those who responded to anything better than a KKK member. They single out others, not even knowing anything about them, simply because they checked that they were a Christian on a poll on a gaming forum... it's pitiful to see this.
I would tell you guys to "Love thy neighbor" but I don’t see what good it will do, since you will just see it as “lies created by men” rather than for it’s moral value. At this rate, mankind is doomed to be separate unless everyone agrees to think and believe the same. It’s one thing to debate and share your difference; it’s another when you section a group out for those differences.

QUOTE
since EVERYONE'S an evil sinner.

You’re absolutely right; there was only one man who was perfect, Jesus. Ever since the Garden of Eden, mankind has been sinners. But you have it wrong. We can’t just say “Forgive me of my sins,” We have to do it with all our faith, and mean it with the truth of our heart, something that I noticed that non-religious folk can’t seem to grasp.

In no way am I trying to single anyone out, I’ve found many kind and understanding atheists, but it seems that the ones on this scene don’t care to understand other people differences, and would rather flame someone, then try and understand why people do what they do.

im not attacking anyone, just religion in general, more specifically Christianity, disagree with me if u want, im always up for a good debate....but compare me to a KKK member lol.....u want me to be a nice and polite when i make a post,

"u forget that if they admit their sins then everythings ok....lol....im sorry, but what a lame of view of sin and forgiveness and all that, i can murder all the people i want, beat off all i want, hell, i could hitler reincarnate, but if i ask for gods forgiveness he will forgive me and ill go to heaven, yeah right, sounds like another way fr the church to control more people since EVERYONE'S an evil sinner."

basically translates  into christianity is just trying to control all people, even the bad ones, by saying god loves everyone and god forgives all(but ur going to hell if u dont worship him), and that since everyone is a sinner we will all burn in hell if we dont admit our sins...which also means if i was an atheist and was a good person my entire life but beat off once when i was 14 i would burn in hell because i didnt admit my sin before i died...ur right, i guess Christianity does make a lot of sense.

Exactly my point, attacking a group for their opinions. Alright then, you're more of a Hitler. wink.gif

QUOTE
by saying god loves everyone and god forgives all

No, Chrisitanity says God is forgiving in nature. He's not always forgiving, only if you are ready to be foriven, and realize your sins.

QUOTE
we will all burn in hell if we dont admit our sins

Again, you're wrong. You're tainted by the masses against Religion. You've grabbed ahold of a few arguements they have, and used them as your only tool against Religion.
No where in the Bible does it say, "If you sin, you're going to hell" or anything like it. If you do like a "good debate", I suggest you understand both sides before making your false statements.

QUOTE
i guess Christianity does make a lot of sense.

It does if
A. You took the time to learn the religion.
B. You had any comprehension skills.
C. Didn't follow the false statements of others.
D. Had an actual arguement, rather than spouting out that everyone are sinners that are going to hell.

QUOTE
Ignorance is bliss.

I'm not sure why mods tend to overlook this, I commend their work and realize that they have busy schedules, but again every post Fek makes is just him shitting on another members thread. I know that isn't breaking any rules, but I'm sure multiple accounts are... Fek, either make a valid point, or get the hell out of the Political forums...

Bottom line... There's tons of different bibles, with tons of different ways of saying pretty much tha same things, yet contradict eachother and themselves in numerous ways. (Tha whole "Of course there's a hell, retard" -Unorthadox Christian and "Bullshit... no there's not" -Mormon)  My favorite of all time is tha whole "You must except that Jesus died for your sins to be excepted into Heaven."  It's funny because, what happened to tha people who lived and died before Jesus was around?

Arguing between religions (especially between tha same variants such as Unorthadox Christians, Catholics, Mormons, etc.) is juss retarded and gets you nowhere.

Since I'm not in between any of it, I'll juss sit on tha side lines and laugh, lol.

QUOTE (enderandrew @ Dec 8 2004, 08:32 AM)
Mormons don't except the Bible as sancrosanct.  They don't argue that the Bible doesn't mention hell.  They believe the Bible is faulty.  There is a difference.

And despite reading the Pearl of Great Price, the Book of Mormon, etc. I never saw the Mormons say Hell didn't exist.  They do talk about becoming your own diety in the third level of heaven, etc.

That's the Jehova's Witnesses.  I study religions, you see.  They have removed all references of hell from their version of the Bible.

Actually mormons do believe in something called  "Outer Darkness" which is where you go when you dont go to any of the three levels of heaven.  And when they describe what it is like it sounds an awful lot like hell to me. biggrin.gif
