Title: Ressurectionxtra Teaser Pre-release
Post by: ressurectionx on January 09, 2010, 12:56:00 PM
Hey everyone,

I mentioned the other day in my own thread that I would release the Xtras for a system of your choice (artwork/videos).  I think I spoke out of turn when I said that much.  I still want to release something, but I don't want to put undue pressure on Madmab for an emu release, which is what would be required for a full video release.  Also, I thought it was kinda silly to release a full video pack only to do it again in a few months when it will probably be altered a bit and you'd have to re-download it.  (At which time, Madmab may still not be ready to release full emus, but that is the date I've set for my own project).

So......

Here's the rules.

1) I will release any artwork pack that the community wants.

2) Packs include, but are not limited to, Super Nintendo, Genesis/Sega CD/32x, Sega Master System/Game Gear/SG-1000, Gameboy/Gameboy Advance/Gameboy Color.

3) Voting will go until Friday the 15th.

4) Given allowance for outside obligations, the pack will be released by the 20th.  If it is not released on the 15th, people will be allowed to vote until I get around to wrapping it up and uploading it to the community.  The moment I'm uploading it is when the vote officially ends.

5) At the time of release, I will inform the community on the status of the pack and if there are any future plans for upgrading it.

The Xtras artwork packs are unlike any you have ever seen before.  I have painstakingly scoured the internet for the best images I could find for every game and, when necessary, touched them up.... removing any watermarks and box damage I could find.  I have also had help from others in the community collecting the best artwork out there.  Thanks go out to all who have helped, like Mega_Man_(?), Stupot1(73), Sotu, FrankMorriss, Excalubur and others.

But that's not all....

Any games that either never had a boxart (prototypes, homebrew, etc.) now have generic boxart created by Gilles that fills in all the artwork gaps.  These are beautifully crafted boxes that are made to look like the official style of the games for the specific systems and will make sure that when you have prototypes and homebrew and unlicensed games in your set that there is box representation for them whether in the emu or using CUT files.

I do hope we get a lot of new posters in here and maybe bring back a few old ones that haven't posted for a while.  I want this place to at least be as active as it was when I first came here.

So..... let me know....   cool.gif

Sega Genesis, because one day while I was playing snes my dad decided to brag about how he gets to play genesis in the navy and how it has more games.

Because of this, I've been playing genesis for 11 years now. No amount of therapy would reverse my condition.

If it's just one pack...
I say: SNES artwork. smile.gif

Remember guys, the SNES video pack had about 80 videos that we considered bad and I re-edited them for purposes like, 10 seconds of black screen, or simply no action. So, you should be seeingsome great improvements in the overall presentation of the video packs as well. smile.gif

Rx,
You should have just made a poll. biggrin.gif

Damn... didn't even know you could do a poll..... It's cool.  I'll figure it out.

I'm only uploading an artwork pack for now.  I'm going to say we have until around March 1st for all videos to be complete.  That's when I'd like to release all of this.

EDIT:  I'd like to release everything March 15th.  I'd like to have everything my way by March 1st so I can make that happen.

No, there are polls.

http://forums.xbox-s...p?showforum=158

looks like March 1st day died before it got started.

Rx, I would post the poll and then post a link in the Emulators forum though because a lot of people don't browse the main forums, IMO.

Deadline is when I finally post 'em, although the Official deadline was last night at midnight.

I said in the first post that I'd try to get them out right away but game myself leeway until the 20th and that voting would be counted right up until I post the pack.

Genesis still has time, although I think the Atari800 and Game Boy are toast.

I'm kinda shocked that there wasn't a single vote for Turbo Grafx 16.   blink.gif

Yeah.  I had one.  It was kinda cool, but I think we had already outgrown that generation system by the time I got it.  I traded some Magic the Gathering cards for it back in the day.

If I could have just half of the money I spent on "collectible" crap when I was a kid I'd have been able to put myself through college with it.  That trade was the only time any of that garbage did anything for me.  Then my brother sold it after I moved out of the house, of course.

I'll get these out on the 20th like I said.  Still working out what the ideal boxart size is before making conversions, and I finally got a huge upgrade pack for the Genesis from hyperspin, so it will be quality across the board like SNES when I get those in there.

Looks like SNES is the winner...

I'll have it up sometime today.  I've already taken the first step and resized them down so the larger dimension is only 318 and they look just as good in the emu as far as I can tell.  There's zero slowdown on any of the images as you scroll through now.  Before, when you hit the larger images you could feel the emu chugging along to load them, but now that's gone.  I dont' have HD, so I can't say how the experience will be there, but if you were using my old Xtras with HD you should see a noticable improvement in performance.

Now I have to convert to enhanced artwork, make datfiles and make cutfiles and I'll get them all posted.

BTW... does anybody know how to make datfiles with multiple directories in them?  In order for the .CUT files to work right, the roms have to be in the correct directories.  I've separated the roms into these categories for every emu, but when I make datfiles it seems that it always just dumps them all into the same directory.

I love all the work you guys are doing, I'm just not sure If I have the HD space to hold all of the xtras.
How big will will the xtras be? In an estimate of course seeing that there are more games on other systems.

Also, is this pack your uploading for xsnes9x or is it cross compatible with zsnexbox?
Title: Ressurectionxtra Teaser Pre-release
Post by: ressurectionx on January 20, 2010, 02:04:00 PM
Including PSX, if you were to have all the US releases, you'd need a 1TB hard drive.  Even I'm not doing that though, since I only have a 500 GB.

I have no way of knowing right now the exact size of the Xtras since things aren't exactly organized for release yet.  If I had to guess, they're over 300GB now (including the space needed for the games themselves, which also includes CD games from SEGA and TG16, which are about 95% or more the mp3 ripped variety)

There will be two artwork packs uploaded here.  One is the old screenshots and the second is the new Enhanced Artwork.  Essentially, the enhanced artwork is the system that ZSNESXBox uses, but the folder names are slightly different and you can have up to 104 images per game instead of just 8.

I haven't tested this yet though, so I'm not 100% sure that there is cross compatibility between the two.  You may have to dup the artwork set to get them to work on both.

Fortunately, the SNES artwork pack is now only 317MB after the conversion.  It was 504MB before I resized them to a more optimal size for the Box's capabilities.

so rez your making cut files premade now i love that idea
Title: Ressurectionxtra Teaser Pre-release
Post by: ressurectionx on January 20, 2010, 08:20:00 PM
Yes.  The plan is to have all of the .CUT files premade, but the caveat is that you will have to have your roms and pics exactly where I have mine or none of them will work.  Down the road if we get multiple favorites lists in the emus so you can have "top-lists", we will have the same problem.  Everything has to be in the exact same place on your drive as it is on mine.

I'm still trying to work out a good way to do that.....

It doesn't seem like datfiles are the right solution, because they dump all of the roms into a single folder instead of the many different folders I use (US Licensed, Europe Licensed, Original Homebrew, Translations, etc.)

The problem is I can't talk about distributing roms here, where I've made my base, and my favorite torrent site for games doesn't allow XDK code either, so I can't upload the XMV videos or any emulators their either.

Distribution may be a bit rocky.  I want to make this as plug'n'play for everyone as it would be for me to crank out 50 perfect mirrors now, but I haven't figured out that ideal solution yet.

You could have a 100TB server, but it doesn't change the fact that I have no idea if my .CUT files will work on your setup.  I'm pretty sure you can get them to work, but you will have to make your own as I'm sure anything I make won't work out for you.

Sorry about the delay with the artwork pack.  Real life stuff came up yesterday. I'll try my best to get them out today.

Sorry again for the delays.

It seems like we've got perfection for the Screenshots and the Enhanced Artwork now.  They really look amazing with Madmab's latest code changes and the Dynamic skins.

I just need to figure out a good way to make datfiles with multiple directories and I hope that BombBloke can alter his .CUT file creator to do the sub-directories too.

I've been thinking that since each romname in every system is unique, we could dump all of the games into one directory to make things like this easy, but we'd have to have a working sort/filter feature first before I even dream of destroying all my work putting them in different directories/categories.

Maybe in the future...

Yeah... great...

Now I got a virus to deal with too.

I still can't figure out what the hell I did to get it.  It's gotta be that I had the Java out of date when I was running all those scripts.  I can't think of anything else.

I'm still trying to figure out how to make datfiles with sub-folders right now, as well as tweaking BB's cutfile creator to make subfolders for the .CUT files as well.

I really feel that I'm doing the screenshots pack an injustice if these two things aren't perfected so they can be used immediately after FTPing everything over.

I sincerely apologize for this.   When the 20th rolled by I thought for sure I'd have this up on the 21st.  Now that it's the 22nd, considering all that this virus means as far as little annoying setbacks, I'm hoping that I can have it up by Sunday morning.  Otherwise, because of some personal stuff I won't be able to get it out there until Wednesday.

Please bear with me while I sort this out,
~Rx

I'm sure it was..... But I just wish I knew what I did that caused it.

Last time I know why it happened.  I tried running untested software from an untrusted source and it blew up the second I ran it.  This time, I didn't install anything.  I've just never been hit by anything that I couldn't directly contribute to my stupidity.  Just wish I knew what I did.

Things are looking good.

I think I have the virus pretty much undercontrol and it should be completely removed by tomorrow.

Though there is still work to do, I also believe that with a little tweaking we've come up with answers for the datfiles and the .CUT files so we'll all have the exact same rom/artwork/cut setup when you follow the instructions I'll write up for them.

Sorry again for the delay, but trust me, it will be worth it when we make this as easy as possible on the end user.

It's all set up and should be easy for you guys to put together.  Thanks to BombBloke for the great scripts that could make that possible.

Unfortunately, Megaupload is being a pain again, but it will be uploaded when I can get it to actually upload.

I'll let you know.

EDIT:

Nice.... not only did uploading to Megaupload now lock my PC up completely twice, but it says I was uploading at a rate of 13MB a second every time I tried which is so impossible it's not even worth mentioning.

I'm about 2 steps away from dropping Megaupload completely.  I just wish something else out there was as good as megaupload used to be.
Title: Ressurectionxtra Teaser Pre-release
Post by: ressurectionx on January 24, 2010, 12:49:00 PM
Okay.... this is getting rediculus now.

I have a 317MB file I've been trying to upload for 20 hours now.  Megaupload will allow files of up to 1GB, while rapidshare and mediafire only allow 200MB.

Megaupload is supposedly uploading my file at speeds of up to 13MB a second, and that's freakin impossible since even my download speed is less than half of that.  Once it's done uploading, it starts the verification process where it will sit for anywhere from about 2 minutes to a half hour and it always says "undefined" when it's done and doesn't give me a link.  Also, when the verification process starts, it freezes up firefox.  I can still go from tab to tab in firefox, but whenever I click on a link it just sits there.  Even if I close the megaupload window, the only way I can get firefox to work again is to restart it.

I've also tried uploading with IE and Google Chrome.

So, I finally broke down and split the archive into two files so I could use mediafire instead.  Same problem.... grr.gif

It's taking about 10 seconds to upload the first 200MB file, and then it just craps out after it's uploaded (and there is no way that it really is uploaded, because there is no way I sent a 200MB file in 10 seconds.

Anybody have any ideas?  I mean, we've all been having problems with file hosting services recently, but nothing like this before.

Could somebody upload a crap file that's around 200MB and let me know if I'm the only one having this problem?

Thanks,
~Rx

I can't figure it out.  It shouldn't be a flash releated issue since flash works fine otherwise.

I've removed Kaspersky antivirus (since I didn't have that before) and I removed the AVG toolbar (which I accidentally installed when installing AVG).

Keeping my fingers crossed....

Nope... that didn't work.

I also removed flash and reinstalled it and that didn't work.

Both Mediafire and Rapidshare have crapped out on me mid-upload.

Anybody hear anything about sendspace before?  It's slow but it seems steady.   I'll let you know if it works out.

Yes... thanks for the suggestion.  For whatever reason, that is exactly what you need to do.  I actually started this about 6 hours ago on Megaupload with their software before I went to sleep.

Worked perfectly.   cool.gif

I present to ya'all, the SNES Xtras Artwork pack, along with the datfiles and .CUT files.

Just follow the instructions and you're all set!!!!

Let me know what you think!

First off, I would like to say: excellent! Ya... we did it! beerchug.gif
some things:
  1. I see you standardized the sizes smaller to what I am assuming is the most efficient place...? 318 x 232... good. smile.gif
  2. I am assuming this first pack wont work on Zsnexbox...? (unless things have change that I am unaware of)
  3. Nice... you used my "SMW Hack" and "Zelda: parallel worlds" Boxarts...haha (I was never sure if you were gonna use these)
The pack looks stunning. Just clicking on a bunch,  they look perfect. It is everything I ever wanted.
Its got all thecoverproject.net's HQ boxarts, Gilou's custom boxarts (and mine tongue.gif ) and, I am also assuming you went and replaced many more with some Hyperspace stuff...?

Terrific Guys!
Thanks

Of course I used your boxes man.  I know that was like a year ago now lol....  laugh.gif

Yep... standardized the sizes to somewhere around 318x232.  Cbagy seems to think there is still a problem with this resolution, so maybe it will be changed, but I thought they were about as close to perfect as you could get.  Look great on the box and zero slowdown at that size.

This pack will not work on ZSNESXBox unless you convert it to the Enhanced Artwork setup with BombBloke's script (you would then have to change the folder names too).  Sorry.  I forgot to do that, but that would have doubled the size of the download as well.

Use this script: http://www.mediafire.com/?jydngykgqgd

My favorite boxart is my Steven Segal is the Final Option.   cool.gif

isn't ZSNESXBox the better of the SNES emulators?

I've heard that said many times, although the only proof I've witnessed firsthand is that Drakkhen 2 died on me about 85% into the game with XPORT's version.

I couldn't tell you which is better, but since a lot of the Xtras and the synopsis are only going to be usable in XPORT's emu, that's the one I will focus on unless some additions are made on ZSNESXBox down the road.  The fact that NES added the ability to change the video directory in the latest release really helped with this so far.

So thats the only game you have ever heard of not playing all the way through?? I have always used Zsnex and I could never get Starfox 2 working.

That's the only tested as working game for SNES9XBox that didn't play to the end that I can verify myself.

As for ZSNESXBox, it doesn't play Star Fox 2.  You need to use SNES9XBox.

What is the latest version of snes9xbox? I see 3 different folders at the usual place. (I use zsnesbox, don't think I've ever used snes9xbox)

Oh, and thank you for this amazing teaser release!

ZsnexBox is the best SNES emulator since SNES9Xbox's software filters don't work and there is no 4 player support for games like Bomberman. If these SNES9Xbox issues were fixed then it would be the better of the two by far.

Damn... is the script not working?  I also realized that I forgot to put updated datfiles in there too.

It should work just by dumping the roms into the same folder as the bat after you've renamed them to the same names I have.  It should work just double clicking the bat.  I did some light testing and it seemed to work just fine, but I didn't try duping the entire romset.

This is definitely a "Beta" thing.

Oh, no. Rx...

I mean the script to revert the screenshot folders back to Zsnexbox style.
How does that work?

So that they say this instead:

F:\Media\SNES\Artwork\Titles
F:\Media\SNES\Artwork\Action
F:\Media\SNES\Artwork\Cart

And if you wanted to, you could make the last four directories look like this:
QUOTE
F:\Media\SNES\Artwork\Misc01
F:\Media\SNES\Artwork\Misc02
F:\Media\SNES\Artwork\Misc03
F:\Media\SNES\Artwork\Misc04

I only have Misc01 with the teaser set.  It's a few alternate covers for games, but they're really not necessary.

Any chance of you adding your own version of the dats down the road MM?  I believe the SNES was one of the systems that people were having a  really tough time matching up with my romsets. If you were to make  alternate datfiles this time around, we'd only need one HUGE one now  that we have the romsorter script. No more messing around with 19  different SNES datfiles. laugh.gif
I really should... sleep.gif
I know that a SNES dat would be one of them most beneficiary to everyone.

Shouldn't be too tough...   Most of your stuff should be exact to mine.  I don't think I changed more than a handful of game names given the amount of side work involved for each one.  You'd probably only need to get the additional roms.

Let me know if I can help with anything.

EDIT:  Oh yeah... so let me know how everything goes man.  I haven't gotten much feedback in general yet and I still haven't heard anybody tell me that everything works as designed or what could be improved.

OK,
Yeah,  my original SNES dats should carry the bulk of what your new ones have. (of course.)
One concern would to fine any possible name changes on games I already have in there.

EDIT: Gotcha, I'll let you know how it goes when I work it all out some time soon here. Of course off hand, the pack looks great.

When using the cut files, the emulator path is:

<path>f:\emulators\(02) nintendo\snes\default.xbe</path>

Is this how the emulator directory should be from now on?

I usually have all the emu's in 1 Emulators folder. Can you show us how this new folder structure will look like?

What will (01), (03), (04) and so on be?
Title: Ressurectionxtra Teaser Pre-release
Post by: ressurectionx on January 27, 2010, 12:49:00 PM
(01) ARCADES
(This is mixed up still.  I haven't really gotten to Arcades yet)

(02) Nintendo
GBA
N64
NES
POKEMINI
SNES  (XPORT)
SNES2 (ZSNESXBOX)
VIRTUALBOY

(03) SEGA
GENESIS
SEGAVMU
SMSGG

(04) ATARI
A2600
A7800
ATARI800
ATARIST (Will likely be removed from my setup; see below...)
LYNX

(05) SONY
PSX

(06) NEC
PCE

(07) PC DOS
DOS
SarienX (Sierra Games Player)
Scummvm (Maniac Mansion & Other Text Games)

(08) COLECO
ADAM

Other Emulators
AMIGA
CHIP8
INTELLIVISION
NGPC
ODYSSEY2
SUPERVISION
WONDERSWAN

I actually used XBMC then to rename the names displayed from the XBE files so the order is different from what you see within each "Company" name.  For instance, My SNES directory actually is in this order:
NES
SNES
SNES2
GBA
N64
VIRTUALBOY
POKEMINI

This doesn't matter though, as far as .CUT's are concerned.

As a side note, all other emulators I've removed from my setup.  They're located in a folder called "Unfinished Computer Emulators" that is only accessable from XBMC's filemanager.  I didn't want to clutter the Emulators section up with a bunch of unfinished/unstarted emulators.  These include the following:

Apple Mac Plus
APPLEIIGS
C64
CPC
MSX
MUGEN
PET
SPECTRUM
Thompson to7-70
TI99
VECTREX
VIC20
X68000

Don't fully understand this part. I know you can rename the xbe title, but how would you get the different order you have?

I did the same thing in XBMC.  Sorry for being confusing there.  I just showed you the folder name and not the edited XBE title in the example.

The XBE titles (not the file names) were changed to the following:

(1) Nintendo Entertainment System
(2.1) Super Nintendo [SNES9XBox]
(2.2) Super Nintendo [ZSNESXBox]
(3) Gameboy / GB Color / GB Advance
(4) Nintendo 64
(5) Virtual Boy
(6) Pokemon Mini

I used a very similar structure for renaming the XBE titles for the others (SEGA, ATARI, Etc.) as well.
