i am restarting this thread, but this time price doesn't matter to me because of my relatives credit card points!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY. What is they best deal?

Maxtor 7200rpm 120 Gb 6Y120L0 seems to be the way to go
-
i seem to have narrowed it down to that, or this, the Western Digital Caviar WD1200JB Special Edition - Hard drive - 120 GB - standard - 3.5" - ATA-100 - 7200 rpm - 8 MB. About same price, same rpm, same mb cache, and same seek time. anythin i should know before i buy either
-
yeah, the WD is a noisy drive - get a seagate

Dunno where you heard a WD1200JB is noisy but the opposite is true! I think WDxxxxJB Special is the way to go. I've done some intense research when I wanted a new hdd and WD outperforms most disks in speed and noise. But more important -> it keeps REALLY cool. I think a cooler hdd is more important to the xbox than a quiet one. The noise of the exhaust fan is by far greater than the hdd.
The problem in the whole hdd discussion is most people select a hdd on what they want for their PC. Bare to keep in mind specs for a Xbox are totally different form a PC:
Item ------> PC -------------------> xbox
Temp -----> less important ----> veryimportant
Noise -----> important ----------> important
Speed ----> very important ----> less important
ATAmode-> very important ----> couldn't care less
power-----> couldn't care less-> important
Price ..... never mind ;-)
I own a WD800JB a can recomend the special's to everyone who wants a xbox hdd.
