What's The Point To Creating Bookmarks For .cut Files
« on: January 10, 2008, 08:35:00 PM »

This may be old news but just in case it's not (I have not seen anything regarding this on here as of yet if I am wrong I appologize but if not here it is)

I don't get the whole bookmark and adding a source thing and it makes no sense to me either. Even when I followed the instructions as I was going along doing it on my XBOX, I still couldn't get it.

So I figured out another way to do this, that uses only 1 file (2 if you want an ICON).

I cut out all the uneccessary crap that is not needed in order to launch a game or emulator itself, and except for the emulators that you can't launch the game directly from, I have launched every single emulator I have put on my XBOX so far, using this process.

The only thing that is needed to launch either a game directly from an emulator that can support it or just an emulator from XBMC is this:

.cut file
AND IF YOU WANT TO USE AN ICON THEN YOU WILL NEED TO GET/USE/RENAME A
.png

No bookmarking is neccessary.

Here is a template for my .cut files to launch an emulator
QUOTE
<shortcut>
   <path></path>
   <label></label>
   <thumb></thumb>
</shortcut>

Here is the Template that I use to Launch a game from a given Emulator
QUOTE
<shortcut>
   <path></path>
   <label></label>
   <thumb></thumb>
      <custom>
        <game></game>
      </custom>
</shortcut>

I then rename the .cut file to the appropriate Name

For Example lets say I just wanted to launch XBOYADVANCE using a .cut file

I have my Emulators things set up like this:
QUOTE
My Emulator Path:
G:\Emulators

My Emulator Icons path:
G:\Emulators\Emulator Icons

My .cut files path:
F:\Games\Emulators

So I would set my up .cut file up to launch just the XBOYADVANCE like this:
QUOTE
<shortcut>
   <path>G:\Emulators\Gameboy Advance\default.xbe</path>
   <label>Gameboy Advance</label>
   <thumb>G:\Emulators\Emulator Icons\Gameboy Advance.png</thumb>
</shortcut>

But if I wanted to launch a game from the XBOYADVANCE lets say F-Zero Climax:
I have F-Zero Climax in a folder called Racing and I would want to use an ICON. I usually use the box cover pic as an ICON that I get from gamefaqs.com.
So I get the F-Zero Climax box cover, save it as a .png, and then rename it to F-Zero Climax.png
So then I would set up my .cut file like this.
QUOTE
<shortcut>
   <path>G:\Emulators\Gameboy Advance\default.xbe</path>
   <label>Gameboy Advance</label>
   <thumb>G:\Emulators\Emulator Icons\F-Zero .png</thumb>
      <custom>
        <game>G:\Emulators\Gameboy Advance\Racing\F-Zero Climax.gba</game>
      </custom>
</shortcut>

So now not only do I have an ICON but when I click it in XBMC I launch that game Directly.

As of right now I have the above .cut files launching the following emulators:
KEGSX <---- I have yet to be able to get a game to launch from this Emulator
NEOGENESIS   <---- I have not tried launching games from this Emulator
PCSXBOX <---- Games cannot be directly launched from this Emulator
XBOYADVANCE <---- I have gotten games to launch Directly from this Emulator
MEDNAFENX_NES <---- I have gotten games to launch Directly from this Emulator
Z26X <---- I have gotten games to launch Directly from this Emulator
ZSNEXBOX <---- I have gotten games to launch Directly from this Emulator

Well that concludes this tutorial, so have fun

So you can actually launch games straight from XBMC then?  That's pretty cool.

Where in XBMC do you launch them from?

You don't actually put them in XBMC.
XBMC happens to be able to read the .cut file itself

I put the .cut files in my Games folder on my F Drive along with the rest of the xbox games, so when I opened the games folder on XBMC I had one huge game list.

Cool.  I'll have to try that when I get my other things sorted out.
