mine did that a few months ago.  turns out i didn't have the dvd-rom plugged all the way in to the motherboard.

check all your connections and make sure the hard drive plugged in all the way too.

Checked all conections. Got  Ed on chipworking and tried to ftp a new evox, same thing happens, the fade also happens when loading slayers. Ftp'ed over avalaunch, it comes up but nothing works except the options menu, don't think it's my chip, so asking for help in other forums..
