D0 Point Align Solution
« on: October 01, 2003, 02:22:00 PM »

OK I dont know if this has been said before but ....

people seem to be having problems Aligning the D0 point SO..... with recent AMD 1ghz overclocking experience can you make the D0 point bigger ?? by using a pencil like you do when you cross the bridges on a AMD Overclock ?? just a thought.

go from the do point and circle outwards so its all joined and the lead will conduct

just an idea again dont do it unless people say it works and I aint saying it works

lemme know
Andy.

probably will not work

D0 is difficult because it has a protective non conductive layer on it

AMD chips do not

How does that even work? Pencils haven't been made of lead in decades.

Just an idea but what about that conductive paint or a conductive PCB pen to enlarge the D0 point a bit. You would prolly have to scrape the top of it first to get the resin of the top but it should help.

Ahhhhhh

Didn't know graphite was conductive.

Still... I know radio shack sells a pen for fixing broken traces. I imagine that would work as well.

Yes graphite is conductive, but it's a very poor conductor.

Writing on PCB with a pencil will NOT conduct, trust me.

The pens they sell are made to do exactly that, so they may work but you'd need a SUPER fine tip, there are lots of other points around D0 and you don't want to short it.

Anyhow, a buddy who can't solder did this -

Take a needle, cut it in half, stick the pointy end in D0, tap it in gently, heat it with a soldering iron, and let a little solder flow down it into D0.  Solder the wire for D0 to the pin.

good luck

That should work, I recall seeing a tutorial here explaining how to connect D0 with a pin. but if you decide to scrape dont scrape too much, I did and now my xbox will only boot from the modchip, damn thing FRAGs otherwise.

You don't need to piss about, soldering the D0 is simple. Use the right iron, the right bit, silver solder and presto. The D0 piont on the back of the pcb is best anyway it's much bigger than the top one.

You don't need to extend any wires. The D0 (Grey) wire is plenty long enough. Thread it through one of the spare LPC holes on onto the D0 piont.
