this is al abit old had with SS mergers etc ...
but the SS is a Security Sector (what it stands for)
and is what the 360 needs to see and compare so it can authorise the disc to run, which is why the SS is linked to the xex file etc
(the 360 see's ss.bin as a raw section burned on disc not a ss.bin file as you do)

the SS.bin (and DMI/PFI) data is actually burned BEFORE the game/ISO data
so it does ned to be 'integraged' or merged in with the ISO
just patched in before the ISO Game data
so a 360 ISO file consist's if broken down ..
DMI.bin + PFI.bin + SS.bin + Gamedata.ISO + random padding

all the stuff before the gamedata is for the 360's dive to digest and get it gamedata authorised etc ...

cheers for the info but 1 question in short.

if i did not merge the ss file and just burned the iso as i had ripped it from wxripper would the game not boot?

no is short !
the image NEEDS the SS.bin info aso it can authenticate the disc to run ...
(unless on a jtag i thinks !?)

cheers m8 for your help. i found out earlier anyway.
my curiosity got the better of me so i went ahead and burned one without the sss and it went to the "put this disc in an xbox console" message laugh.gif

meant id burned a coaster but ive never been afraid of making a few coasters in the interest of learning smile.gif
