Nme 2 Install Report In Hitachi 79
« on: January 17, 2008, 11:19:00 PM »

Got my chip yesterday and installed it today

I have an Xbox 360 with a Hitachi 79 drive.

First surprise after opening:
Big black layer of epoxy on my solder points. wink.gif

But could remove it slowly with my solder iron.
Was a lot of work but finished it without to much damage:

I used 0,1 mm copper wire.

Everything connected

I also found an error in the install instruction from the nme2.com site:
The GND solder point was in older Hitachi drives at the pink point,
but in the new 79 drives it was moved:

NME 2.0 Chip:

everything done and ready for closing up:

Done and PGR4 in all its glory biggrin.gif

I know it looks not nice but works perfectly.
all games run perfect and get recognized automatically.

I am from Germany, so I can't really help you with that.

But i think every good electronic parts store should have that.
Or maybe at ebay.

It is also called "magnet wire".

Sweet! I'm glad it worked. What is the method you are using for preparing backups?

- Downloading the game.

- Unpacking.

- Always patching the ISO with nme associator first.

- Opening the DVD file in imgburn 2.3.2.0.

- Manually setting the booktype to DVD-ROM for my LG burner.

- Burning with 2,4x speed.

- Playing. wink.gif

This worked so far for every of my about 20 games i got.

Great job DirtyH!...and nice pics too.  Very helpful.

I got my NME-2.0 chip today and opened my console tonight to get started.  I have the same Hitachi drive as you and decided to use a soldering iron like you did to remove the epoxy.

However as I worked it down closer to the traces I started to get really nervous that I was going to damage them.

I put the drive back in and reassembled the console to ensure that the drive was working still and it is.

Do you have any tips on how you removed the epoxy without damaging the traces??

Use a hot air gun and craft knife. Much cleaner. Check out this video

Very nice installation, two questions: It won't mess anything up if you let the wires touch like you have them touching near the hotglue? And is that bad for anything too? (The hotglue)

EDIT: And do you use a different wire for the 5v and the GND connections?

*Wouldn't let me edit my post again*

And whats the name of that sticky stuff you put on your board to keep the wires from touching other points and to hold the chip to the top of DVD drive?
