You gotta have the Advanced AV pack for the Xbox.

Yeah, it's in Audio in the Settings tab, but to enable it in XBMC, you need the Advanced AV Pack.

Is there a major difference with the Advanced AV Pack compared to a xbox connected (standard cables) to a receiver with surround sound?

Ya, big difference. With one you get no dolby 5.1 and with the other you do. IF you use the standard cable you get standard sound (stereo).

The advanced AV gives you a digital out and s-video. Get that one.
